  • I believe you'd have to write asm for that kind of a code, which means either a rom patch or tons of genie codes. Unless pressing the a/b button at that screen already writes something to a ram address, but I doubt it.

That's what I was thinking. The only other possibility I could think of is if there was a built-in debugger, kind of like with SMB 3, but I don't think SMB has one.

      • Shit, I almost forgot that I made this code. Actually, I didn't make the code... I was playing around with random codes on my Game Genie when I tried using the first 2 codes for the Galoob 3 part world select codes. The result was awesome. A new level, and when you finished the new level, you got level select by pushing the B button. Probably 20 years ago that I found this.

Will have to try it again and see if it still works, and maybe figure out how.

        SMB

        YSAOPE + YEAOZA

"Level Select" code!! Lets you start on any world you
want! Here is how to get to the level select screen:
When you first start out, you are in a new world (0-1)
and you have to finish this level to get to the level
select screen. Here's how: Swim (yes swim) past the
first pipe you see and keep going until you see some
water at the bottom of the screen. Swim over the top
of the blocks that are above the water, but not too
far. Then swim down and backwards a little to drop
down through the little opening in the blocks that
lets you get to the bottom of the screen. This part
is very important because if you aren't at the bottom
part of the screen, you won't be able to finish the
level. Once you get to the lower part of the screen,
just keep going to the end of the level. When you
get to the end, it will say "Thank You Mario, but our
Princess is in Another Castle". To get the game to
continue, you have to press "B". Now you're at the
"Level Select" screen! Just press "B" until you
see the world you want (at the top of the screen),
        and then press "Start".

EDIT: You can tell by the exclamation points that I was pretty excited when I found it. :-)

          • Tony - I knew about the Game Genie Code YSAOPE + YEAOZA

On the World Select Code in SMB..Where in the ROM do I change it btw

            • Decode the genie codes. SMB (no duck hunt or WCTM) is only one page, so if you open the rom and it starts with NES, add 0x10 to the address, and you have your rom offset.

Or you can use GHTool (stickied in retro) to patch.

The only reason I can see why it would give you an "invalid code" message is because those should be 8 digit codes. The 3rd digit in a NES Game Genie code determines if it's going to be a 6 or 8 digit code. The 3rd digits in those two codes are N and E. According to my official NES Game Genie code book (yes, I still have one), those letters are for 8 digit codes.

Try these codes and see if they work:

                        GAYINE
                        EEASKA

                        • could have just put them in the converter on the site and let it correct them for you.

                          http://gamehacking.org/?sys=nes

If this game uses paging, which is basically any game with a prg over 32k, you'll want to find the opcodes they are overwriting and make them 8 digit codes. Otherwise you may screw up other aspects of the game.

                              • For Sonic 3 and Knuckles, The codes were:

1.) Sonic always has Bubble Bounce- there is a Sonic 3 alone code for it, so I wanted to see if it were possible for you to make a sonic 3 and knuckles code for it.

2-4 codes are just added to my request

is there a way for you to make codes that give you two shield abilities?

                                Here they are.

2.) Sonic has Fireball Dash with Bubble bounce

3.) Sonic has Double Jump with Bubble Bounce

4.) Sonic has Instashield and Bubble Bounce (Doubt this will be able to be done, but worth a try.)
