  • I tried googling this but couldn't find anything.... Did Japan ever make sequels/series of Doki Doki Panic? If not, I don't know why they didn't after the success of the U.S. SMB2 and Japan's Doki Doki Panic. If Japan would have made sequels/series out of Doki Doki Panic, I think it would've done pretty good and would have got ported to the U.S.

Edit: I think you added a new code to your post for the batman game so I added that one as well.
      Thanks.

I believe that Nintendo scooped up the rights when they converted it to Mario 2. I may be wrong of course, but you would figure as much in being they didn't want another company to steal their thunder with an identical game.

      • If that sort of history interests you, I recommend this book. It mentions Doki Doki Panic, as well as lots of other great history. I especially liked the chapter on Universal trying to claim the rights to Donkey Kong because of King Kong. I'm about half-way through the book.

WOW! I completely missed this request... I will take a look at this one when I get some time. Sorry about neglecting it the first time around.

The game uses an obscure calculation routine for fruit collected (Milk/Meat/Lives/Bonus codes), so some of these may be out of my grasp, but I will give them another look in a bit.
I found a bug with your "Enemies Continually Hit Anywhere (Based on and includes Nolberto82's "Hit Anywhere" code.)" code for Adventure Island 3. When this code is enabled, I found this I can't break rocks or moving stone boulders in stages (see attached snapshots below). If I shoot them with the boomerang when the player is alone or with red (fire) or blue (ice) dinosaurs, the boomerang thrown by the player or dinosaur's fire just passes through them without their destroying. Normally, the boomerang (used by player alone, as the Stone Axe) and Fire and Ice Dino's fire and Green Dino's spin attack can defeat these rocks and stone boulders, but your "Enemies Continually Hit Anywhere (Based on and includes Nolberto82's "Hit Anywhere" code.)" code practically makes them invincible against your attacks and you won't be able to clear them.

Other code "Extra Life with Every Fruit Collected" for same game "(Hudson's) Adventure Island 3" and both codes for "Batman" game are awesome - I thanks you for them.

                • This is off topic, but where is Hudson Island supposed to be located? Did the game's story ever say where the Island is located in the world? The main character seems hawaiian

I'm not sure if this issue existed with Nolberto82's original code or not. I will have to look into why this is happening when I get a bit of free time. Glad you liked the other codes.

There was only one Doki Doki Panic. It was absolutely not a success in Japan. The game only came out for the Famicom Disk System, which did not sell anywhere near as much as the Famicom. The game was made by Miyamoto (creator of Mario and Zelda) to promote some Fuji TV characters, that's why the original game has an arabian setting. The game was then retooled and made into a Mario game. If you play the original game (Doki Doki), you'll see it's rough around the edges and not really fun.
Luckily, since the only thing Fuji TV owned were the 4 main characters, we got to keep awesome enemies like the Shy Guys, Birdos and Bomb Ombs.

There's no Hudson Island, the game is called Adventure Island. The origins of the game is a bit complicated. Originally there was a game called Wonder Boy for the Arcade made by a company called Escape, and owned by Sega. From that game, Sega continued the Wonder Boy/Monster Land series and Hudson Soft then teamed with Escape to make a Wonder Boy for the NES, but since Sega owned the name, they created the Adventure Island series for the NES (both games are pretty much the same). The game in Japan is called "Takahashi Meijin's Adventure Island", Takahashi Meijin was a Japanese dude who could press a button 16 times in one second in the game Star Soldier, he then became Hudson's "face" or spokesperson, which in turn was converted into the hero of the Adventure Island games. In the USA the character is called Master Higgins, but in Japan he's called Takahashi Meijin, just like the real person. They both even look alike :P

In Japan there was a fourth Adventure Island game, that was more like Metroid (or Super Adventure Island 2). There was also a spinoff for the Famicom called Takahashi Meijin Bugette Honey, but it's pretty crappy and EVIL.

You forgot to mention how big of a hit Takahashi was with the ladies...
US NES games left to beat: 3

                          haha

That is crazy though that he can press a button 16 times in 1 second.

The history passages about both games that Rey posted was interesting. I knew alittle bit of that already from my previous reading of the history.dat file of MAME for those games.

I was going to ask if it was worth playing (Doki Doki Panic)... but my question has already been answered...which is no.

                          • Well, you can play it so you can experience it yourself. But if you want to enjoy it, it's best if you just play Mario 2.
