Didn't the FBI get ahold of the biggest ransomeware decryption keys and made it public? There was a thread in the Lounge on it. Either way that sucks ass.

The virus creates a DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION file in every folder that it infects. In the file there is a shortcut to your assigned decryption page. The decryption page gives you the instructions on how to pay the ransom. Here's a sample page:



Getting ahold of the bitcoin was difficult. I had to find a local bitcoin dealer and meet up with them in person. I paid for $1200 in cash for approximately $1100 bitcoin. When I got the bitcoin I sent it to the address listed on my decryption page, and about an hour later the crooks sent me the decryptor with the decryption keys.

Wow! How did you get the $1000 to them?

After 2 months of inactivity on this site, I'm back. I was hit with the nasty Cryptowall virus in mid-October. This virus encrypts files on your computer with unbreakable encryption and demands $500 (within a week) or $1000 (after a week) bitcoin ransom for the encryption keys. The only way you can get your files back is to pay the ransom or have a recent OFFLINE backup of your important files. Unfortunately, I didn't have a recent backup of all my important files. Not wanting to lose my recent unbacked-up files, I paid the ransom of $1000, got the decryption tool, and got my files back.

Lesson learned: Always have a recent offline backup of everything on your computer.

Anyway, I hadn't had a lot of time for hacking since I had to work my ass off to earn the $1000 to pay the ransom. Yes, I had to pay $1000 because I couldn't earn $500 in the week after it happened.

If you do not have a recent OFFLINE backup of your important files, I suggest you disconnect your internet and do it right now. You do not want to get hit unprepared for these encryption ransomware viruses.
