  • [Request] Codes for Rent a hero (MD)

This game was recently fan translated. Some cheats for it that I think would make it a nicer experience:
    -Faster text speed on "fastest"
-Less frequent "monthly fee" for the combat suit
    -Cheaper and more efficient batteries
    -Cheaper energy tanks
-Cheaper to create a bank account (currently 1000 gold which is 10+ fights)
-Faster research for armor and weapon upgrades
-Higher rewards for random encounter thugs compared to the optional set encounters in back alleys
-Make it possible to take on jobs with the RH bracelet so you don't have to backtrack to your home each time

    Thanks.

    Edit:
-A +20 BT code for D batteries for the late game could be useful as well seeing as you're stuck with D's for over a third of the game if not half.

I'll take a look at it shortly (unless someone else beats me to it).

EDIT: Didn't realize it was an RPG, so may take longer to play thru the game to make codes.

Also, the ROM I have is "Eidolon Translation Group", Patch 0.01. Is this the correct ROM?

EDIT2: Where do I adjust the text speed?

This isn't one of your requests, but walking thru walls will make it easier for me.

Rent a Hero (with Eidolon Translation Group Patch 0.01) (Genesis)

      FTPA-EA42
      Walk thru walls.

UPDATE: Also works with the new NikcDC patch.

No, the new patch is from NikcDC's group. It was released last month:
        http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2309/

        The Eidolon one is unfinished.

Hey, thanks for looking into it Tony. You access the text speed options by pressing start.

Yes, the patch mentioned above is the one I'm using and it's complete. I've encountered one instance of garbled text though, will report it when done with the game.

Another thing I've thought about that might make battles in the game more enjoyable would be to mess around with damage values, knockback, and stun times. For example, an enemy carrying a gun does more damage by bumping into the player than he does by shooting him/her, and using a special attack doesn't cause longer knockback or stun times so in some cases it's not worth using at all because of the battery costs.

Minor update. The walk thru walls code above also works with the new NikcDC patch.

I don't think any of the NikcDC patched ROMs are in the db, so will add version 0.97 when I get time.

If the codes work on all versions, I believe there's no need to add a hack to the database.

The Eidolon Translation Group Patch 0.01 hack was already in the db. I have no idea if all the codes will work on all versions.

Again, I know this isn't one of your requests, but I'm just going to make/post useful codes as I progress through the game.

Rent a Hero (with NikcDC English patch version 0.97) (Genesis/MD)

                  AADB-CNC2
Get $600 from your Dad at the beginning of the game (instead of $300). It will still say $300, but you'll get $600.

                  AADB-DBC2
Get $9000 from your Dad at the beginning of the game (instead of $300). It will still say $300, but you'll get $9000.

EDIT: uffbulle, would a code to get mega amounts of starting gold (say $100,000) be useful to anyone, or is $9000 enough?

Well, you'll start making several thousands per mission not too far into the game so I don't think more is needed. But it would mean that you can explore much more freely from the get go since there's no chance of losing the suit and getting killed by a random encounter. There's still the hassle of depositing money (1k per deposit is the only accepted value) and buying batteries with a very limited inventory though.

                      What is the "BT" stat?

EDIT: I'm making codes to let you get more "BT" when you get your first suit of armor, but not sure what new values to use. The normal amount was 50. Would values of 70 and 90 be OK, or maybe higher? Not sure what the BT stat is used for. I'm guessing "Battery? Couldn't find a FAQ/Walk through anywhere.

Yeah, it's battery or "energy level" for the suit. You can upgrade it later using energy tanks, which are fairly expensive at 2k gold and only add 10 units IIRC, but the balancing feels better after you start earning more money. Maybe those tanks could add a bit more BT. You really need BT after you start using the new weapons you've researched (donated money for research to be more accurate), it drains very quickly from special attacks.

I think Tony needs to know whats a good value to have the BT at since default is 50.

Oh, well I guess 80 would be a nice enough boost for the early game? As I said I'd rather have (somewhat) better AA/C/D batteries and energy tanks. It takes time to buy batteries, one at a time, and the inventory is very limited.

Edit: Yeah I've been stumbling in the dark with this game and am currently stuck where you need to follow a chinese guy to the Malaysian Princess restaurant, which I never picked up the location of and you can't ask the people you'd expect to be able to ask.

                            Edit 2:
I suppose you could just as well tamper with how quickly BT is drained from using the suit or special attacks, if that's easier to do.

I just had my first fight/job and I was told to talk to "Mieu" for my next job. Where can I find her/him? Been looking everywhere.
