  • More codes for this awesome game. Will have all of the "start on level xx" codes soon. There are lots of levels. :-)

    Blaster Master 2

    ALBT-GA38 +

Stay in the same area after you die (instead of having to start back at the beginning of the stage).

    SGBT-GNCA +
    AGBT-GACC
Automatically advance to the next level everytime you die.

    ================================

NOTE: It's really fun using the "Automatically advance to next level" code with infinite lives and quickly explore every level in the game.

          • @Tony Hedstrom: This game feels like an AMIGA game more than a SEGA Genesis one. Just a quick question. Where do these top-down levels appear? I could not find them in the main game when I searched for them. Can you specify a particular level (or levels) that contains one of these top-down levels? Much thanks if you can!

That's funny you should mention that. I had tried every single level with the Game Genie codes and could not find any of the "Top-down" levels. I know they're there (played the game a lot when I was younger), so they must be in between stages. ZANAT posted a Gens save state in one of the top-down levels. It's on the first page: http://gamehacking.org/vb/threads/68...re-not-able-to

Since I've been on a Blaster Master hacking spree, I may spend some time and see if I can figure out a way to directly access them. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Well, I figured you already found this but I was hoping it may contain some clues (either now or down the line):

                (incomplete)
                FF0535:XX

                Stage digits:

                0B - Stage 3 (Boss Fight #2 - Reddish Armored UFO-Satellite)
                0C - Start of Stage 4
0D - Stage 4 (Boss Fight - Grey-White Circle Boss With Red Eyes & Mouth)

17 - Stage 7 (Boss Fight - Light Green Mini Construction Vehicle)
                18 - Stage 7? (Boss Fight - Red-Brown Mini Construction Vehicle)
                19 - Start of Stage 8
1A - Stage 8 (Boss Fight - Against Brown Goblin With Red Eyes In Green Metal Armour)
                1B - (Blaster Master 2 Ending)
1C - (Usual "Get Ready" Text Then Game Reboots)
1D - (Usual "Get Ready" Text Then Game Crashes)
                1E - Same as "1C".

                Stopped there.

Not all level modifiers are the same. That often makes them interesting. I've discovered shoot 'em ups where the levels are jumbled and disorganized to the human eye -- I believe it was U.N. Squadron or another 'S'EmUp' game on SNES. Surprised that I ever found it since it was, roughly, level 4, level 1, level 5, etc.

                • FF0535 was the same address I based the GG codes on. I left out most of the boss rooms. If I remember correctly, I loaded ZANAT's top-down view save state and checked RAM address FF0535 and it was 00 (as was every address near by). As soon as I find out where the top-down levels are, I'll do an assembly trace and find out what's going on.

                    • UPDATE: My "One hit kills most enemies (overhead view)" GG code (RGFA-A612) has some problems. I'll fix it and repost.

Also, it looks like at least one section of top-down view is between stages 1 and 2.

                      • Another update:

This code has been replaced by another code that kills both enemies and bosses (side view)...

                        REBA-J6ZA
One hit kills most enemies (side view). Works while in vehicle or on foot.

has been replaced with this code...

                        PEBA-JEYN
                        One hit kills bosses.

Turns out that the "One hit kills bosses" code works on all enemies too.

                        New description:

                        PEBA-JEYN

                        Will update the db.

                        • UGH. Beginners mistake. The player and enemies in Blaster Master 2 use the same damage routine in the overhead view. My "gun is 10x stronger (overhead view)" code will kill most enemies with one shot, so that code is just as good as 1 hit kills.

                          More codes...

                          Blaster Master 2

                          TBCA-ACHT
Start each life with twice as much energy (overhead view).

                          ABCA-AGHT
Start each life with 4x as much energy (overhead view).

So does that mean the code will affect players to die from 1 hit as well?

Yes, 1 hit kills you too. I already removed the code from the db. I didn't notice it because I was using a code to prevent enemies from shooting at me. Because the side view levels use separate routines, I just assumed the overhead views would be the same. Ahhh, who am I kidding... I fucked up. :-) Anyways, everything has been fixed/updated.

Also, I found out where you enter at least one of the top-down levels... at the very bottom of stage 1, section 2, there's a door that I think is locked, and I think you get the key from the Bee boss in that section. Haven't figured out how to open the door yet, but when I exited the top-down view, that's the door I came out of.

EDIT: Note that the side view "one hit kills" code works fine, it was only the overhead view one hit kills code that had problems.

                              • More info on Blaster Master 2.

The codes that let you start in the 1st and 2nd boss rooms have a problem... You don't have access to your vehicle, and you need your vehicle to advance to the next level. I never added those 2 codes to the db, but I went ahead and deleted them from this thread.

A quick guide on how to get to the first "top-down/overhead" view level:

Begin the game (use this code to start on stage 1, section 2 to save some time: GXDT-GLE6), when you drop down to the lower level, find an open door and kill the Worm boss to get the gun that breaks rocks. Break the rocks that are in your way. Go find another open door towards the bottom and kill the Bee boss and get the key. Get back in your vehicle and go to the closed door on the bottom of the level (to the left of the Bee boss). Press UP and "Shoot" to open the door.

I did an assembly trace when I moved from the side view to the top-down/overhead view and found that the game puts 00 in every address from FF00FC to FF3700, then (I assume) builds everything from scratch. I'm not sure that there's enough top-down levels to narrow down the search results. Back to the lab.
