              • Abystus, I have a question about the NES Megaman games.

In Megaman 1, when you defeat any of the six Robot Masters and you receive his weapon, you still can enter and play his stage and defeat its boss again and again. For example, when I defeat Cut Man, I still can enter in his stage and defeat Cut Man again and again. In Megaman 4, Megaman 5 and Megaman 6 games you also can press Start button and free enter in any of the eight stages after the its Robot Master is defeated and have his weapon. For example, after I'm have defeated Toad Man in Megaman 4, then I can enter in his stage again. But on Megaman 2 and Megaman 3, when I defeat any of the bosses, I have no access to his stage anymore. For example, I fight Metal Man in Megaman 2. When I go back to stage Select screen and I try to enter in Metal Man's stage again with pressing Start button, the game don't allow I enter in his stage (Metal Man's stage) anymore.

Whether is possible you can make a GameGenie codes for NES games Megaman 2 and 3 that allows after defeating the bosses their stages are remain accessible?

It may be something simple not allowing the stages to be selected. I will give it a look when I get a chance.

Enable Doctor Wiley's Stage (Allows you to select his Icon from the start.)
                    AOKEZAEI

Allow Access to Any Defeated Boss Stage
                    AEVAZEKI

The codes above work perfectly in Nestopia but makes FCE crash for me because for some reason it doesn't recognize the compare value and writes the value when it's not suppose to. I am unsure if this is an FCEUX problem only or if it applies to all variations. If it doesn't work in your FCE give it a try in Nestopia.

I tested your codes with FCEUX 2.1.1 and 2.1.4 and I don't got your problem with the emulator's crashing on none of both versions. They make the stage select in Megaman 2 to work almost as the Stage select screen in Megaman 1. But I still please you to modify somehow these codes so they can be used on any version of FCEUX without any issues.

                      • Why do people still use FCEUD and other variants of the emulator, when they can just use FCEUX which is all the variants of that emulator combined into one? Doesn't FCEUX have all the features that all the other FCE** emulators have?

Also, why do people still use older versions of FCEUX? The latest/newest release that is STABLE is version 2.1.5. It works fine for me. So why do people still use version 2.1.4? I think people run into some problems with the latest version (2.1.5) because they use the SVN versions of 2.1.5. But if they were to just use the stable version that can be downloaded from the official website, http://fceux.com/web/download.html , than I don't think they would encounter those problems they've had.

I also don't understand why people would download stuff, like an emulator, from a third party website when they can just download it from the program/emulator's official website. This way they know they aren't using an emulator that has some minor tweaks and changes than the official emulator. If you download an emulator from a third party, there is always the possibility that the emulator has been tweaked in some small way that could effect the use and cause some minor problems for the user. I just always like to download stuff from the program's official website. This way I know what I'm going to get.

If it works for you then I'm not really that interested in digging deeper to see why FCEUX 2.15 on my end isn't working properly. I am in 64 bit Windows 7 so it may be the issue itself.

Don't let the name of the thread cloud your vision of what emulator I'm using. All of my recent hacks have been using FCEUX 2.15 (downloaded from fceux.com) unless otherwise stated on the codes. I would assume it may be a 64 bit problem or something else related. As long as these codes work for the requester then all is right with the world on my end. I have never been interested in making codes compatible with all emulators as it's a waste of time in my eyes due to each emulator being slightly different. I do agree with your point that everyone should download this from the origin site instead of any random site out there however.

If someone wants to change the name of my thread to FCEUX then knock yourself out...

My post was not directed towards you. It wasn't directed towards anyone. I was just curious as to why someone would use an older version and why someone would use a different variant of FCE** instead of the all-in-one FCEUX. The title of your thread never entered my mind. I was basically just interested in learning if there was some special reason as to why not using FCEUX 2.1.5. Maybe there was something I didn't know about as to why some people don't use it.

Well from my experience all variations of FCE don't play/react to codes the same. Also your OS may be a factor (usually not the case) into why certain codes don't work on a particular version of FCE or it could be other factors all together. I have found things that don't work in 2.15 that work in other emulators just fine and vice versa. Some people just don't know about other variations or the ones that even receive updates. Since there is no auto update feature in most of the emulators we all fall behind from time to time in updating our emulators, and as with anything new builds can possibly instill more problems in different sections of the emulator than the previous builds (everyone makes mistakes). At least we are all on the same page, now what to do about the title of this thread...
