I thought I explained why fceux was previously inferior in regards to genie codes. Since last fall that bug has been fixed. I now don't understand how Nestopia could be any better in utilizing genie codes than fceux. Could you give me an example of a genie code that doesn't work in fceux but does in Nestopia? I really believe that such a conclusion was reached by user error.
I agree with Hybrid that the ultimate test is real hardware. I also want to add that the best codes are the ones that accomplish the desired effect with the fewest lines, emulator or not.
A genie code is a raw code, but encrypted; which is a more accurate term than converted. The genie unscrambles the letters and comes up with the same address, value, and /or compare as contained in the raw code. I believe the genie always ORs the address with 0x8000, so that it's always writing to the rom area of the system's memory in the case that someone enters a wrong letter.
And I'll add when I was a kid, back in NES's prime days, I used a genie on spy hunter to find that it looped and never ended. So considering the point of the game is to achieve a high score, using an infinite lives code or an invincibility code makes the game pretty boring.
