Snes9X 1.53 with REWIND Support (Test Build- 3/29/2012)

Have you ever wished that Snes9X has REWIND support? Well your wish has come true. Download it at it's official website:

    http://www.s9x-w32.de/dl/testbuilds/

Be sure to download the most recent release

    Gens+ REWiND! 1.1

The emulator "Gens" also has REWIND support. Download it at it's official website:

    http://www.emulation-evolved.net/?q=node/10

Version 1.1 has a bug when played in fullscreen so if you play in fullscreen you might want to download version 1.0

I posted this news because I was shocked to see how many people were not aware that there was a Snes9X version that had REWIND support. A lot more people are aware that there is a version of Gens that has REWIND support, but I decided to include it in my post anyway just in case. I hope this has informed some people.

My wish is that snes9x didn't crash every 2 seconds.

It would be a useful emulator for some hacking tasks, but every version I've tried crashes when adding or deleting cheats. The crashes occur with such great frequency that I can't stand to hack that system for any length of time. Quite unfortunate, since hacking SNES asm is just about as easy as hacking the 6502, and would be just as fun if there were an SFCEUX in existence (I still have yet to seriously use MESS for hacking)

I'll give the rewind version a shot; maybe I'll get lucking and the memory leak in the Cheat Entry/Editor is fixed

I also think that Snes9x is WORST SNES Emulator. I had that problem with its crashing too when I use its cheat function. I tried most versions of Snes9x - 1.43, 1.51, 1.52, including current version 1.53. On every version happens I to open window to add a cheats for current game loaded inside Snes9x - PAR or GG codes, then I click OK Button and Snes9x crashes and I just get "Snes9x.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message and "Don't Send". Also often happens I to add GameGenie or PAR codes in Snes9x, then I click OK Button to ostensibly accept entered codes, and when I open cheat window again, some of added codes are missing.

I used also the ZSNES emulator and regardless of its DOS-like Interface, I can say its cheat feature working 100 times more stable, as ZSNES almost never crashes when I add and use GG or PAR codes with its cheat feature.

@BeyondTheStatic, Snes9x is totally useless if you want to use cheats with your games - there are no any different emulator with such unstable cheat feature.

My SNES recommendation is "Bsnes 0.70". This is the last version that has all the eye candy. The author, byuu, stripped the emulator of a lot of features after this version. This version also has REWIND support as well as Fast Foward support.

I thought I was alone! Those are exactly the same problems I was having, and it makes hacking and testing cheats almost impossible.

ZSNES if my favorite SNES emulator for just playing games. It's fast, plays games well and you don't get any screen tearing when using VSync. Unfortunately, you can't copy and paste codes, which means that intensive code testing becomes tedious fast.

Hmm, I've got bsnes 0.80, and also bsnes-debug. The latter has a cheat search and other hacking utilities. I'll give it another shot, since it might be the best one of its kind ATM.

Strange; I've never had this issue, and I used to hack all the time with SNES9x...I believe I used version 1.42...and maybe 1.43 with debugger support.

The remedy to this problem is simple after I discovered it, just hit the CLEAR button before you leave the cheats screen and it almost never crashes. I used to hate this shit myself but doing this stops almost all crashes related to the cheat screen.

The Snes9X crashes for me too, but you already know the reason for that. I'm sure you'll be able to fix it when you get around to it.

Ok boys, would you like to know about another hidden emulator gem? This one is for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The emulator is called:

                        VirtuaNES Plus

                        http://code.google.com/p/myvirtuanes/

It is based off the source code from VirtuaNES 0.97

This emulator is so obscure that less than 200 people have downloaded it from it's official website. So far only 2 people have downloaded the latest release which was on July 5th, 2012.

I'll give it a try... It'll be nice to start hacking games for that system in earnest

Here's another emulator you might not know about for the Super Nintendo. "It's the best emulator if you're looking for the most accurate BS Satellaview emulation (even better than SNES9X & ZSNES.)"

                              SNESGT 0.218

Download it at it's official website: http://gigo.retrogames.com/

*Be sure to download the link that has the English plugin.

The one negative thing that I noticed is that this emulator appears to not support cheat codes, which is unfortunate. But aside from that, this is a very good emulator if you are just looking to play games. It plays all 26 "SA-1 enhancement chip" games perfectly (Ex: Super Mario RPG). This emulator is extremely well built. It doesn't feel bloated, it's light, and it runs very well on older computers. Also, I haven't experienced any bugs, unlike Snes9X and ZSNES. The user interface is very well organized and clear. You will like this emulator.

If you want the latest Beta version of SNESGT, you can download:

                              SNESGT 0.230 (Beta 7)

It can be downloaded here at the emulator's official bulletin board: http://gigo.retrogames.com/bbs/c-boa...ne;no=2205;id=

*Remember, this version might be buggy since it's a Beta version. All Beta versions tend to be buggy. I've read that these Beta versions have some sound bugs, but I personally haven't noticed any yet. If you want to play on the safe side and not use a Beta version, then use the first version I mentioned in the post, version 0.218: http://gigo.retrogames.com/download.html#snesgt
