  • Heh, my mold sample analysis came back

The air and physical samples I took at my apartment (which I've been staying away from lately) finally came back today.

    Unusual Mold Condition(s) Exists: Yes

    ASPERGILLUS
THIS SPECIES HAS A MUSTY ODOR. IT IS COMMONLY BEING IMPLICATED IN PULMONARY DISEASE IN IMMUNOCOMPROMISED HOSTS. IT HAS ALSO BEEN REPORTED TO CAUSE SKIN INFECTIONS. MANY SPECIES PRODUCE MYCOTOXINS, WHICH MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH DISEASE IN HUMANS AND OTHER ANIMALS. TOXIC PRODUCTION IS DEPENDENT ON THE SPECIES OR A STRAIN WITHIN A SPECIES AND ON THE FOOD SOURCE FOR THE FUNGUS. SOME OF THESE
TOXINS HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE CARCINOGENIC IN ANIMAL SPECIES. SEVERAL TOXINS ARE CONSIDERED POTENTIAL HUMAN CARCINOGENS.

    HYPHAE
NON SPORULATING PIECES OF FUNGAL ORGANISMS THAT CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED BY GENUS. THEY ARE INDICATIVE OF ACTIVE GROWTH IN THE SAMPLING VICINITY.

    PENICILLIUM
MAY CAUSE HYPERSENSITIVITY PNEUMONITIS AND ALLERGIC ALVEOLITIS IN SUSCEPTIBLE INDIVIDUALS. COMMON CAUSE OF EXTRINSIC ASTHMA (IMMEDIATE-TYPE HYPERSENSITIVITY: TYPE I). ACUTE SYMPTOMS INCLUDE EDEMA AND BRONCHIOSPASMS; CHRONIC CASES MAY DEVELOP PULMONARY EMPHYSEMA.

    CLADOSPORIUM
COMMON CAUSE OF EXTRINSIC ASTHMA (IMMEDIATE-TYPE HYPERSENSITIVITY: TYPE I). ACUTE SYMPTOMS INCLUDE EDEMA AND BRONCHIOSPASMS; CHRONIC CASES MAY DEVELOP PULMONARY EMPHYSEMA.

    RHIZOPUS/MUCOR
MAY CAUSE MUCOROSIS IN IMMUNE COMPROMISED INDIVIDUALS. THE SITES OF INFECTION ARE THE LUNG, SINUS, BRAIN, EYE, AND SKIN. INFECTION MAY HAVE MULTIPLE SITES.

A number of those symptoms sound like the crap I've been dealing with here. I'm quite sure there's some kind of mold all over the place here. Which is part of why the central heat/air isn't being used.

Heh. Did your parents note the reason why those aren't being used?

Eh, the usual. Leaky roof, roaches, miscellaneous bugs, 2 centimeters of standing water in the basement every time it rains, peeling lead paint, rusty nails and dilapitated couches in the basement, graffiti all over the basement, etc. We had to have the place COMPLETELY rewired. The first month or two, if you turned on more than one AC unit in the house, the breaker would trip, or it would trip for no good reason some times. Sent our electric through the goddamn roof. We got it fixed, though. I can't complain 'bout the condition of the house too much, really. Besides the lead paint, there's hardly anything wrong with it. It's 975 between 3 people, two stories with a hugeass living room, dining room, and basement, and all the bedrooms upstairs are pretty big too, except mine. It's just real old, and the basement needs a lot of work.

One's some chick I've known since High School. There are days were she's just a straight cold bitch, and there are days where she is supremely sweet and nice. And then there are days inbetween where she's just annoying. Her boyfriend, though, is a fucking douche. I hate him with all energy I can muster. He leaves the hot water running, he interrupts and talks over you, and if you walk in on a movie, he has to explain as loudly as he can every fucking detail, even if it's 5 minutes in. Then he spoils the movie for you, since he's seen every shitty movie the day it comes out on the internet.

The other roommate is some chick that the chick I know from HS knows. Or something like that. She's always irritating, has a voice and face that gives me the creepin' cruds, and brays like a donkey.

So in other words, next year will maybe be campus life.

Yeah, good luck with the campus endeavor, dude. What're you studying, if I might ask?

MY place sucks. We live in a one floor house, small basement... renting... ugh...

I killed a 3 1/2 inch roach last night in my basement. 7 sprays of roach killer, 2 sprays of bleach, 6 stops with an army boot... 3 tissues... 1 toilet flush

Damn, heh. I don't mind crappy living conditions (I was in SF for the three years, and Africa has some decently horrid places, heh), but having the air contaminated with something that does nearly anything bad to you...is just unacceptable. What's more, to have the landlord blow it off and not offer any assistance, instead saying it's "Just dirt, or something", when it's high on a wall, in an AC closet...is ridiculous. Something will be done about this.

Yeah, we're not third-world. People should be slightly less lazy about important things like safe housing. Bleh.
