Just came across Hitmen's site with various PSX tools, a few Action Replay related things also.

    http://hitmen.c02.at/html/psx_tools.html

Their GSPro v3.2 documentation was updated in '07, so it's some recent stuff...

I think I only ever went it that store twice when it was know as Electronics Boutique before it merged with Game, I only ever go in GameStation.

I actually mentioned that ^.^, but PEC won't do the job with pSX.

That's a cool find. I've always wondered about those disc, as I've yet to get my hands on one.

I'll give it another go really soon, and let you know of any issues. I was just having some random error every time I tried to launch it. I'm glad your working with STR's, the other tools are so outdated and/or crappy.

For anyone else who may be interested in dumping the RAM within pSX emulator, I've made a guide in my signature.

I didn't post it here for 2 reasons:
    1. I can't embed the spreadsheet since it's html code.
    2. The exact emulator that goes with the spreadsheet formula may be against the rules here. (If mod's don't want me even linkin' it, just let me know...)

Using the emu/spreadsheet combo you can:
    Dump the RAM
Scan for codes within the exact ram, like a GSPro does
Convert Cheat Engine addresses to GameShark for the world to use
Convert GameShark to Cheat Engine addresses to use already existing codes
Do basic Hex to Dec and Dec to Hex conversions

Thanks, I've used pSX before to understand game internals, but unfortunately no emulator can emulate the MDEC chip perfectly.

Finally figured out what the problem was: there was a short-circuit in the process between my keyboard and my chair . Your help with TOTALIO.SYS was all I needed to get things to work after all. The "PlayStation Version 3 Utilities" still don't detect my GSP, but now all versions of gscc are working perfectly.

Ya I eventually figured that out, but the error sure doesn't help at all

I have a dire need to dump raw PSX ram and/or video-ram for a long running project I'm working on.

    Thanks again for your help!

Yeah it's pretty much pot luck if it's been flashed with something else or not.
I was wrong about it being a PS-X, it's actually a section of the Sony Bios you'll notice at the start it says "licensed by" a few times well the last part where it says it is where file starts if you do a search for "licensed" on a real psone bios the second search should bring you to the section that it replaces ;-)

    Yep, it's just the 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2 for the PS1.

From what I read, 3.1 was not out for too long.
I'm hoping that was because of something good, like it would boot burnt games naturally, and not just a simple bug fix.

The reason I mention the game booting is because that's one difference between the 3.0 and 3.2 noticeable in the hex editor.
But I mostly want to find out if the .STR viewer was still intact or not.

The 2nd link is the one I was thinkin' of getting a while back.
I ended up asking the seller if they know for a fact that it's 3.1, or just going by the sticker on the back. They just think it has not been down/upgraded because it looks like new.
I may end up getting it, not sure yet.

I just wanted to say I think the ar / gs roms are actually PS-EXE's, I took a brief look at a decrypted one in a hexeditor and it had the all noticable header in it surrounded by either pointers or random garbage / dummy data, I guess it makes sense.
