  • Devil May Cry PAL2NTSC Code - Help maybe?

    Hi guys!

I was trying to make a PAL2NTSC code for Devil May Cry (PS2), because PAL version is just a pile of cra* compared to the NTSC one (a PAL2NTSC code seems to be the only way to get it in NTSC - all others ones failed).

Thanks to your tutorials, I almost made it. But I'm experimenting a very weird graphic glitch. See pictures :

As you can see, a part of the pic is misplaced, making the game very incomfortable to play. This part seems to be related to the HUD - like if it wasnt "patched" to be forced in NTSC.

(To your information, Im using PS2rd on real hardware)

Would you have any suggestion to fix this? Thanx!

    • What Video cable you using?
    • Are you using other 3rd party software?
    • Is ELF patched?
    • What PS2 Model you have?

Thanks for your interest about my problem.

      I'm using a RGB cable.
No other 3rd party software tried (dont have one other than ps2rd)
No, ELF file is the original one, from my DVD retail.
      My PS2 is a 50004 unit.

(I just found the Y-fix code. But problem is still here sadly).

Connect type is Scart, set to RGB.

According to this thread, I have to look at :

          00069403 sra s2, a2, 16
          24020001 addiu v0, zero, $0001

But I cant find exacty these values using PS2Dis. I can find 4 occurrences of 00069403 in the ELF, but never with 24020001.
The first 00069403 seems to be the good one for a PAL2NTSC code - as it partially works. And replacing for the 3 others gave bad results (no vmode change).

Have you tried that GSModeSynthesizer thing or whatever it was called from the Psx-scene forums? I also remember something related to the scegsresetgraph or whatever function, but I really don't remember anymore. It's been over 5 years since I did anything with the stuff, and I never came close to fixing my problem at the time.

Yes, I already tried GSM, with no result. What I already tried for this game :
              - use GSM : breaks the screen, only a litlle part of it it displayed, and distorded. Game seems incompatible with GSM.
              - use OPL, with NTSC video mode set in OPL display settings : game runs in PAL, no effects.
              - use OPL+GSM : same result as with OPL stand alone version.
              - tried to patch the iso with pal2ntsc + y fix : the picture is broken where were the black PAL borders
              - tried to patch with ADR patcher : same result as with pal2ntsc
              - use PS2rd to enforce NTSC video mode : no effects, game runs in PAL

Yeah, I know about scegsresetgraph label, it helps to find which 00069403 sra s2, a2, 16 in the ELF shall be replaced (according to here)

A big thanks for these codes, you made it, juhu!

Graphic issue is now gone, game is running in NTSC mode, and Y-Fix is perfect.

Only remaining issue is that the game freeze during the intro FMV when you begin a new game (+ a FMV during the warning screen before the game menu). Yesterday, I found these working
codes to skip these problematic FMV (all their other codes interesting for me doesnt/partially work) :

                  Skip FMV
                  201CE340 03E00008
                  201CE344 00000000
                  201CE8EC 70001428

I suggest you to add these to yours, otherwise you cant enter the game.

Once again, a bit thank you, I finally will be able to play this game the way it should be.

I didn't encounter those problems when making the codes.
but maybe cause I was using OPL/PS2ESDL and Slim PS2.

However after you mention those problems
I tested with disc/ESR copy the game hang/lockup
press x rapidly before warning screen to skip it.
movies press select rapidly skip FMV

I will add note to my codes about those problems.

Actually, I just finished to install the game on internal HDD, and that FMV issue is still here using PS2rd + OPL (0.9.1).
Not a problem because of the skip fmv codes, but at least information is now complete, it doesnt happen only with the DVD game.
