There's a whole new generation just now discovering the old game consoles, emulators, and codes. While there might not be anyone making new games for the old consoles, there's no lack of interest, as we see romhackers making revised versions of old games. For example, I am playing a new hack of SNES FF III, which I know took its maker a LOT of effort to create. And codes? Many of us like to play a game with codes at times, and without codes at others. And there are several people out there who just enjoy making codes, and seldom play the games for which they make codes, being happy to make codes and see them work.
I don't think working with old games for old systems is a waste at all!
