I think I made my first ASM hack.
AKA my first Game Genie code:

Game: X-Men (One of the few games I once owned for it.)

See, when you select through the levels without the code on, you can choose between the levels 0 2 and 4.
With the code, using the down arrow you can now select all of the following stages: 0 1 2 3 4 5

I still haven't taken the time to try to learn ASM, I just got lucky with using Cheat Engine's option 'Find out what accesses this address'.

Did you ever try out Cheat Engine?
After using it, you may want to tackle other systems that have inadequate built-in searching functions.

I put myself together a Cheat Engine to Action Replay converter for the Sega Game Gear.
I didn't test it for Master System, but it should also work.

The Action Replay uses the RAM range C000-FFFF
A few times I would get an address just slightly out of that range, so the converter is good for Game Genie too for that.
