  • Asterix (NES) question

I downloaded a ROM of Asterix from Theoldcomputer.com and it wouldn't play on JNES or FCE Ultra -- the graphics were weird on both. Anybody know another source for a .NES file of it?...

(theoldcomputer.com is usually where I get my NES roms, for what its worth)

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Sounds like it's using the wrong mapper.

    Get NESTICLE
    Run it, and open Asterix.
    Go to File>ROM Header
    Set the Map# to 2
    Press the 'Write' button.
    Exit NESTICLE

That should clear up the graphics problems.

There's a related problem with most copies of Wario's Woods, in that the 'Battery' option is disabled, when it should be enabled.
This reality is mine. Go hallucinate your own.

VirtuaNES has an option like that if you use the list, it will let you choose the mapper to use with that game. But right now, the problem is in the PAL emulation, you have to set the "PAL emulation" option in fceultra to fix that. Go to Config > PAL Emulation, and then F10 to reset the game.

Nesticle is the one you have to hit the Windows button on your keyboard to minimize and has the severed hand cursor, right?

VisitntX -- that fixed it Thanks! Now if only I could get Game Genie codes I *know* are valid to work with FCE Ultra...

Tools > Game Genie Decoder/Encoder > Game Genie Code (Write the gg there) > Add To Cheat List

The if you want to disable it press SHIFT+F1 and make sure that it doesn't have * that means the code is enabled.

There is no Tools tab in FCE Ultra. My version is 0.98.12, if that matters

It works for me, just try to copy and paste in your browser.

Ah its working now. I think it was just my browser or the website that wasn't letting me do it.

There are two files for many of the ROMs in here: FC0 files and CHT files. Neither are recognized by Fceuxdsp. Ummmm... How the heck do I open one of the games?

                    (edit)

Im going to try playing the ROM I alread have of it.

*looks around the site and some other sites...* I cant find any Game Genie codes for Asterix. I coulda swore I saw some somewhere. Hmm. I'll go with Pro-action replay.

                    Edit

                    http://gshi.org/?s=v2&sys=5&gid=6628
It mentions how to use them but I have no idea what the hell that means. Some games on here explain it more thoroughly. In the address field I put in 000023 0C but nothing happens. Im assuming the Game Genie field is for Game Genie codes. Where are the pro-action replay codes getting saved when I enter one? Are they getting saved at all? Whoever designed this basically made it so you had to be a computer programmer to get it. :|

                      Take this: 000023 0C
                      In Address: 0023
                      In Value: 0C
                      There you have.

I have to make a GG for that game and other NES games.

                        Ah, thanks Cool

                        *trying it out*

When I enter it, it shows its Game Genie code equivalent is GAZALE. I hit Add to Cheat List.

No effect. I'm still losing energy when I get hit by stuff.

It's a PAR code, you have to enter it in the Cheat List, and not in the GG Code/Decoder tool. Just press SHIFT+F1 and enter it there.

Ok cool, so it'll appear as *0023=0C in the box?

I started the game. Graphics are screwed up. PAL emulation is checked off, too.

PAL emulation has to be ON and you can't enter the code as 0023=0C; 0023 goes in the address and 0C goes to the value.
