  • Requests for Super Mario 2 1998 (Genesis) Unl

    I've found there are stills NO ANY CODES available for this unofficial Super Mario port for Sega Genesis from it's Super Nintendo Super Mario All-Stars version. So can someone make GG codes for it:
    • Master code (if it's needed);
    • Start With ?? Lives;
    • Infinite lives;
    • High Jump / Jump in Midair;
    • Slow descend after jumping / walk in air;
    • Start each level with ?? seconds;
    • Slower timer / Infinite time;
    • Invincibility;
    • Always have Starman Invincibility;
    • Start each life as Super / Fire Mario;
    • Always shoot fireballs;
    • Pause game and press (that button) to transform into Fire Mario;
    • Double / triple amount of coins from multi-coin blocks;
    • Start on ?? world / Level select.

    I've tried the codes for other Mario games but they didn't worked and aren't for this game, sadly...

        Thanks you, @nolberto82! You can add your codes from post #2. (Edit: I've was added them now).

        Someone else can look at remaining requests, like my friend @Tony Hedstrom (can you. my friend look at these maybe )? Also, now I've saw there is an another thread complaining about a major issue with this same game which unfortunately has still NO replies - In level 4-1 (and level 6-1 also) where Lakitu spawns, he can drops too many Spiny Eggs on screen and this may lead the game to just CRASH due to too much many enemies being dropped on the screen. So I ask: can someone else (like Tony Hedstrom or Hybrid) try to make rest requests:
        • Master code (if it's needed);
        • Start With ?? Lives; (ordinary but still not available)
        • Infinite lives; (usual code stills unavailable)
        • High Jump / Jump in Midair (nolberto82 hacked this already);
        • Slow descend after jumping / walk in air;
        • Start each level with ?? seconds;
        • Slower timer / Infinite time (nolberto82 has hacked this already);
        • Invincibility (important code but still not hacked - actual reason I do still haven't played this game entirely yet);
        • Always have Starman Invincibility;
        • Always stay big like offiical Galoob's code for NES version (new request);
        • Start each life as Super / Fire Mario;
        • Always shoot fireballs (nolberto82 hacked this already);
        • Pause game and press (that button) to transform into Fire Mario;
        • Double / triple amount of coins from multi-coin blocks;
        • Start on ?? world / Level select (ordinary codes stills not hacked yet);
        • Bowser die in one hit (new request);
        • Lakitu drops less / much less Spiny eggs onto you (I think this is mandatory and very important code to be made since this could prevent major bug with this game where Lakitu can drops unlimited number of Spiny eggs and that could make the game to CRASH) http://gamehacking.org/vb/threads/22...)-code-request - this thread explains the bug but it stills has NO replies nor any codes addressing this, sadly. So this code might need to classified as Master code maybe too.

              I think the Lakitu bug is a emulator bug. It runs properly on more up-to-date emulators.

                Tony, I've downloaded Super Mario 2 1998 from one Russian site for retro games and archive contained 4 ROMs: Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) [!].gen, Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) [f1].gen, Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) [o1].gen and Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) [o1][f1].gen. You're right - the only ROMs my Gens Rerecording 11a could run and I could play them was "Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) [f1]" and "Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) [o1][f1]" ROMs, although they appears to have some major flaws, so you might try to make codes that addresses them (this game appears with buggy physics):

                1. The game runs at somewhat like double speed because music plays and enemies moves faster;
                2. Jumping is very choppy - Mario jumps in air and falls pretty fast compared to original Nintendo's NES Super Mario and Super Nintendo version on Super Mario All-Stars;
                3. In the end of level, the flagpole won't add any points to your score, same with remaining seconds on timer - it'll count down all left seconds but they're not giving any points instead adding 50 pts from every left second to your score.

                The ROMs "Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) [o1]" and "Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) [!]" (the original dump) will only displays an unknown error message on bottom of screen entirely in Chinese and will not go further beyond that. I think you may try to make Master code for this game too, since I think those are the ROMs you're downloaded and tried most likely because those two will NOT RUN at all on my side either...

                Edit: I've downloaded to try also the Sonic Jam 6 and it appears to suffer from exact the same bugs, as like Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl), only ROMs with [f*] prefix in the name was boot on my side. Only difference between the two unlicensed games appears to be player's sprite and also Super Mario 2 1998 (Unl) is 2-player game while the Sonic Jam 6 is 1-player game only. I've now sent links via PM to you to the ROMs downloads containing the fixed ROMs mentioned above I've downloaded.

                    Since the [!] and [o1] versions don't run for me, I made some codes to fix that.

                    AAWA-8GG4
                    Fixes versions of the ROM that won't run on some emulators. If you have a version of this ROM that gets stuck on a screen with some Japanese text at the bottom, these codes will fix that.

                      Don't fall when walking off blocks, pipes, across gaps, etc ("walk on air"). To come back down, quickly tap the jump button. If you press the jump button a little longer, you'll stay at the same height. If you jump on a spring board, just quickly tap the jump button a few times to get Mario back down. Code makes it very easy to get to the warp zone in 1-2.
