  • Codes Crash VisualBoyAdvance

I was trying to use a code for Final Fantasy V Advance for Infinite HP in battle (I've tried at least 3 different codes for this effect, none of which worked). When I tried this code:

    Infinite HP (In Battle)
    7201E4C4 0400
    4201EE04 270F
    00000004 004A

...it caused the emulator (VisualBoyAdvance) to crash. It lets me add the code to the list, but then when I click OK, I get a message saying "VisualBoyAdvance has stopped working." Is the problem with the codes, the emulator, or could it be my copy of the ROM?

As mentioned above, I've tried 3 different codes to get the Infinite HP in battle effect and none of them have worked. I'm at my wit's end with this.

If you're using the regular old-ass VBA, then upgrade to a more modern version. VBA-M is a good one, and try the codes again.

I downloaded the most recent version and the codes no longer crash the emulator--but they still don't seem to work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I put in the Must Be On codes, and VBA usually will give an error message if the codes entered are the wrong format or don't match the game. Nothing seems to be wrong, the codes just don't work. I don't get it.

Looks like none of the codes I had saved are working for any of the games since I upgraded. Do I have to redo them all?

Again, download a more modern version of VBA, such as VBA-M, and try the codes again.

However, I don't even know if VBA-M updated its cheat engine. I know VBA doesn't like some cheats. If that's the case, you'll have to use another emulator.

Get no$gba as that's a better emulator and supports cheats.

I never had any problems with codes before on VBA, except for the FFVA codes. All my other games work with cheats, no problems. But after downloading the most recent VBA, none of my saved cheats lists work. Do I have to make new cheat lists for them? Not that I can't, it's just that it's kind of odd to me that the saved cheats don't work anymore.

New versions sometimes change the cheat support a bit and old saves won't work on newer versions, I have this happen from the 1.72 hacker version to any newer version so I assume it's the same for you.

The cheat codes are working, I forgot I had disabled them at a certain point for one of the games. Anyway, are there ANY codes for FFVA that are known to work with VBA? I'd rather not have to try to re-learn a different emulator. If none of the codes here work, then I will just have to play the game without them, I guess.

Man, no offense, but you suck :P

I just tried a USA version of FF5 on VBA, went into a battle and used the Infinite HP code found on the "In battle codes" group and it worked perfectly.

I don't know if you have noticed, but VBA only takes Gameshark and Codebreaker. Other code formats supposedly work, but I've found that any other code type (action replay for example), will not work.

So in the future, stick with Gameshark or Codebreaker.

                      VBA supports earlier format only

                      Code button: RAW format
GameShark button: Action Replay version 1 codes
Codebreaker button: Decrpyted codes seem work

Action Replay V3 codes work fine, just paste them into the Gameshark tab when entering them. You can always use the RAW address as well. Just put them in the Code... tab
                        I'm retired from code hacking.

CodeBreaker is generally the only kind I use. I found out a long time ago that the other formats won't work, so I don't bother with trying them. I really have only three effects I'm looking for with this game--infinite HP, infinite MP, and all blue magic spells.

If the codes aren't working for me then it's possibly the ROM I'm using. I'll try *rom site* to make sure I've got the actual real USA version.

Although we can mention roms here, it's against the rules to post where to download them, so remove the site (even though everybody knows it :P).

                              Sorry, wasn't aware of that.

I've tried about 16 million different codes for infinite HP, both in and out of battle, and none of them do squat. I guess I really do suck, since I seem to be the only one that can't get them to work. This game does not like me. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I've checked, double-checked, and triple-checked the codes and I've entered them all as listed here. I compared them with the codes from BSFree and they all match. I downloaded an actual US version of the ROM. NOTHING IS WORKING!!!

Forget it, I give up. Screw this game, I don't need this kind of stress. Feel free to close this thread.
