    I think there may be some funny regional check... But I don't think that's what is causing the comms error. The problem is likely something to do with windows, but I don't know much about dealing with the default issue of it blocking hardware port access.

      hmmm.....the computer expert in the house (BlackGoddess) is going to try it on 2000 when she gets time.

        nope! won't run on 2000 either and cannot get DOS to run.

          It's probably the dreaded nt-based windows problem. There should be some way around it, but I haven't a clue what it'd be if various kinds of I/O drivers don't fix the problem.
