who here hacks using breakpoints?

what set up do you use? emulator (which) actual hardware (what). I would like to hear from someone who uses it. (I have had no luck setting up such utills on my own)

I know... I'm suspecting part of the problem is there was a general lack of debugging functions on good psx emulators until fairly recently. Even now, I'm not sure if any of them are worth the effort of using. Also, the well known hardware methods of doing breakpointing require a comms link card. I'm of the impression all of two people around GSHI have actually had one, and I think one of them got rid of it at some point... It sucks, I've got everything I'd need except the comms link itself...

Like I mentioned in another topic, the only hardware means that is reasonable these days is using an xploder type device. There's no funny ISA cards required, but getting one might be difficult. This time I've had the sense to locate a page that explains how the breakpoints are used on an Xploder:

I have tried this and gotten it to work myself. Only reason I don't do it currently... Well, I lack a computer and I rather need to reflash the cart. I made the mistake of putting caetla 0.37 on there, which is a nasty version without working code support (and a tendancy to block it being used as a plug mod...)

Can't get the version of xlink that has the debugger to work with my xplorer fx after the needed downgrade. Only the version without it will work correctly (which is only as good as GSCC2000).

This is really driving me insane. I've so far only been able to find either versions of xlink that don't have the debugger functions, or are stictly not in english. I'm not sure how well say, running the german version with the german xlink would work, mostly because I think it'll be running strictly in PAL. There may be a video mode switch on the options, but I haven't touched a v2 xploder in years.

tried running a uk rom on the "good version" of xlink with no favorable result. Yes, you can switch the video mode even on the 2.0 (it is not in the options menue, you have to hold L1+L2 at the main menue). Also, tried the german version with no luck. Constant comms errors with any region of the correct version (I think 1.70 or above) even with the correct regions ROM on the xplorer.

I have contacted a friend who works at Datel but I can't rely on him having the time to help me as I am sure he is quite busy making codes and such. So any help would be appreciated. (I especially need a copy of that 4.xx ROM in english that I forgot to back up).

Also, I wonder Liquid, when you ran it did you have an fx or did you use a comms link?

The cart I had was a v3 when I got it, and I just used the exact same cable I use for a gs pro. But, I was running win98 at the time.

Then that must mean I can do the breakpoint version without a comms link (i.e. by having an fx). Hmmmmmm..........interesting. Anyway that is good news. Otherwise I would assume that maybe only the version without breakpoints works with it. Too bad I can't translate german!

There's a way around having to translate at least xlink. If you open up an english version with the debug features, and also the german one with something like "resource hacker" you should be able to merely copy the dialog and string resource information from the english version to the german one. Other than the language, that stuff should be identical.

Any chance you could get me the copy of the UK debug capable version? I've been trying to locate it, but I've had no luck.

and download xlink_95_uk.zip for breakpoint version. The german version still did me no good even with a german rom. When I said wish I could speak German I meant so I can use the message board at mogel (a very good xploder site).

some of the codes posted there are better than what most of us Americans make (probably because they have better utills available in Europe as far as to the general public).

This has worked on v1/2/3 US xploder versions without trouble, though only the debugging stuff really worked right on a v2.

There's a small chance the files got corrupted durring the transfer, but I think it copied correctly.

Still get comms error. I don't get it. If I try to upgrade it says "xplorer not in main menue" but xkiller recognizes it and does the upgrade. Is it some kind of territory check blocking me maybe? Or something else like a comms port issue?
