I found a re-translation of Final Fantasy VI for the SNES by someone called RPGone. My question is, what set of codes would I need if I want to use any for this game (a code for more Gil, for example)? Will the codes for the USA version of FF3 work or will I need the the Japanese version codes? Or will any codes at all work for a re-translated version?

Probably Japanese codesCode:IMPORTANT: This patch does NOT work on the Final Fantasy III English ROM. It will only work on the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy VI JAPANESE ROM. So be careful which ROM you are applying this to.

That is the one I was talking about, but I found the translated version already pre-patched. I've always loved this game, so I was interested in seeing a better translation. But affording items in shops becomes a problem sometimes.Last edited by TheDarkOne; 05-17-2014, 10:37:00 PM.

I tried to use codes I know work for the USA version, many of which I made myself. I haven't tried any from the list I mentioned. But I'll see about making codes for the Japanese version, if someone else doesn't do so first. Meanwhile, please tale Lee4's advice.
As a rule, most of the time, codes that work for a Japanese game will still work if an English patch has been applied to the rom.I come from a smart family...In the Civil War, my great-grandpa fought for the WEST.

These are the codes that work but are glitchy:
Top Character Infinite HP
7E3BF4:0F
7E3BF5:27
Top Character Infinite MP
7E3C08:E7
7E3C09:03
Bottom Character Infinite HP
7E3BFA:0F
7E3BFB:27
Bottom Character Infinite MP
7E3C0E:E7
7E3C0F:03
Second Character Infinite HP
7E3BF6:0F
7E3BF7:27
Second Character Infinite MP
7E3C0A:E7
7E3C0B:03
Third Character Infinite HP
7E3BF8:0F
7E3BF9:27
Third Character Infinite MP
7E3C0C:E7
7E3C0D:03
They work, but cause some graphical errors, and also can sometimes obstruct pahways. As for the codes that do not work:
'Steal' Always Gets Rare Item
DD7A-57AC
'Steal' Succeeds More Often
DD7A-5FAC
All Items Are Free
C3BBA5:64
These codes do not seem to work. So far, these are the only ones I have tried, so I don't know for sure about any of the other codes. As you can see, two of them are Game Genie format, but I am using the ZSNES emulator, so I do not think that is the problem.Last edited by TheDarkOne; 05-19-2014, 02:13:58 PM.

Hmmm...I used a Japanese rom patched with RPGONE's English translationOriginally posted by TheDarkOne View PostThose codes don't seem to work on my version.

and they worked fine. However, I didn't play it all the way thru. I only used codes for Terra and Locke, and some Item Slots codes, as well as "No Random Battles" after leveling up Terra and Locke.
There may be more Japanese versions I don't know about.I come from a smart family...In the Civil War, my great-grandpa fought for the WEST.

I found a pre-patched translation of it on Dope Roms, so maybe the pre-patched version is why there are gltches. As for the patches, I tried the RPGOne patch available at PhilTheHammer's above link on a non-translated Japanese ROM, and it would not work in ZSNES after the patch was applied. It just came up with a completely blank screen. I suppose I could just keep playing the GBA version, but I still need to find out if there is a code for that version to always get the rare item when using Locke's Steal command.Last edited by TheDarkOne; 05-27-2014, 03:20:32 PM.

I patched it with the Lunar patching tool to an original unmodified Japanese rom, ran it on SNES9X and ZSNES 1.51 with no probs. Suggest you make sure you're using a "clean" unaltered rom And make sure you're using the CORRECT file from the patch folder. That would be ff6v12b.ips. You can see what the other files are for in the patch's "Read Me" & description on Romhacking.net.Originally posted by TheDarkOne View PostI found a pre-patched translation of it on NO ROM LINKS, so maybe the pre-patched version is why there are gltches. I did that with the correct patch, I'm just not entirely sure if it was an unmodified Japanese ROM (hard to tell, since I can't read Japanese). I do know that Dope Roms has multiple versions of both FF3 and FF6, so finding the right one is not easy. But I did find the Steal code I wanted for the GBA version. It's now just a matter of filling up that Rage list.Last edited by TheDarkOne; 05-27-2014, 03:22:07 PM.
