  • I just received a different version of Wrath of the Black Manta. Neither these new codes or the old Galoob codes work on the game. Is it possible the GAR is the problem? I know some games arent able to use it.

First off, is this an example of a hex code or PAR code for NES? 000595 4F

Can someone steer me in the direction of how I convert this into a GG code? Theres so many codes in the NES database on this site I'd like to convert but dont want to bother others to do it. Ive checked the Code Hut and others but its all a mind maze to me. I'll try to make my way though it if someone could post a link to what can actually help me.

    • that a PAR code, which is hex and you cant just convert PAR to GG. You have to breakpoint the address so you see where the instruction is coming from and then alter it, this alteration is the GG code we then convert to a usable format the GG understands. What is GAR?

using Tony's well written guide http://codehut.gshi.org/DebuggerGGcodes.txt you should be able to fiddle around a bit and actually make some GG codes.

      • The GAR I mentioned was the Game Action Replay. I mentioned it in a previous post, I should have clarified.

Thanks Helder, Ive been reading about breakpoints and debugging programs. I'll check out that link now, thanks a lot.

        • Well seeing as the title of that device has Action Replay in it that makes me think you dont need GG codes at all, but it does accept them as a real PAR would. What code format does it take, like for example we know a GG code is XXXX-XXXX and a standard PAR is usually XXXX:XX, this way I can probably help you use the existing codes that are already made with out making them for GG.

It seems the Game Action Replay main purpouse is to let you save your game, like emulator savestates.
It doesn't let you enter codes.
His problem maybe its related to the ROM version. There's a PRG0 and a PRG1 version of the game.

            • Ive been reading Hedstroms guides to converting codes. I downloaded all the needed programs and figured it out now. However, none of my Color Dreams games will work with the Game Genie. Also, many of my Tengen games wont work with it too. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

              • ah crap, then I'm gonna have to rehack the codes.

                Edit:
I just downloaded 2 different versions of the game and both work fine with the GG codes I made, I might have to look elsewhere to see if there is another rom version, the one I have is (b1) and (o1) not the ones Whipon previously mentioned.

                • Its not the codes. Its just when I attach ANY Color Dream game to my Game Genie, it flashes in the code entering screen. But while its flashing, if I press START quickly, it will go right to the game and start playing perfectly. Any thoughts?

                    Its just 125kb (zipped):
Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG1) [!].
I have no problem to upload it so you can give it a try.
                    Its from latest GoodNES (3.xx).

                    • None of the codes work on an actual NES cart though. I have 3 versions of the ROMs. When I use the PAR code and set the break point, 2 of the 3 versions produce the same codes.

I have the following versions of the rom:
Wrath of the Black Manta (E) [!]
Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG0) [!]
Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG0) [b1]
Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG0) [o1]
Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG0) [T+Spa1.0_eduardo] Forget this one, since its a translation.
Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG1) [!]

We need to determine what version you have to start the job.
Do you have by any chance a Gamebit screwdriver?. That way you can dissasemble the cart to get extra info about it.

                        Lets try this:

Wrath of the Black Manta (E) [!]

                        Invincibility,
                        AAKZGGAG

Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG0) [!]
Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG0) [b1]
Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG0) [o1]

                        Invincibility,
                        AEKZZLAG

Wrath of the Black Manta (U) (PRG1) [!]

                        Invincibility,
                        AENZZLAG

                        This is Flickering Invincibility.
The first boss can decrease your health, but you never die.
                        Didn't tried on another boss.

                        • Many thanks Whipon, with I was finally able to beat this game after all these years. I had the PRG1 version after all. Strange how theres so many different versions.

Cool!. I had to make a flickering invincibility, because the game uses a different routine for it after the fliying carpet scene that the one in Level 1. The only routine in common was this one.
That way you only need one code.
Glad you found the code usefull .
