You don't need gateway for anything really but their hacking software makes things easier. Downgrade to 9.2 firmware the you will be able to use the spider exploit to do ram dumps and apply codes. I already made codes but I'm using EmuNand with a higher firmware but installed the exploitable browser but on there I can't seem to get the codes activating but maybe they aren't instantly changed but Ram dumps work. I even have an ftp app on the 3ds to easily transfer dumps back and forth between the pc and 3ds.

My PC for whatever reason, refused to install the software necessary for using Spider. I had no choice, but to wait for, Gateway to come out with a cheat searching function. I don't like having to install all of these CIA files and shit, just to hack a basic Infinite Health code.

Once people start figuring everything out, then I will go nuts hacking asm codes and other stuff, I am a patient guy and I can wait.
I have actually always kind of wanted to learn C++ so I can make my own programs to help others hack games easier, but I am too lazy and lack the time to do so.

I'd like to hack 3DS pointer codes myself, but pointers are something that have always confused me. I always get confused as to how I should even find them and then there are "pointers inside of pointers" which confuses me even more. Sonic Generations requires a pointer for Infinite Boosting and I think that would be a handy code to make.

Anyway, expect more codes from me in my next post.

You must use a Gateway cart. I don't think it works with CIA versions of games, yet. What you do is: you boot into gateway mode, then you press [Select] to bring up your games in your "Red" Gateway cart, then you choose what game you want to hack, then you press [Up] on the d-pad and choose what button combination you want to use to bring up the Gateway menu.

CIA games can't use this function yet, because you can't press select on them and choose a CIA file, which means we can't hack Virtual Console games with Gateway, yet. If you want to hack 3DS codes, then you must use a Gateway flashcart, for now at least.


On another note:
A common problem we are having in the 3DS code hacking community right now, is that a lot of games are using Dynamic addresses to store game data. Kingdom Hearts, and now as I recently found out, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, are using Dynamic addresses. We (the community) don't have any tools or information on how to hack pointers, yet.

I have PM'ed Helder with the info you seek. I would have posted it publicly but I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post links to an outside website. We have a way to create pointers already and here are my results that I have created.

You can keep the information here so everyone will know how to make pointer codes for the 3DS.

I was able to hack the Moon Jump code for Majora's Mask 3D with this tool, but someone beat me to it. And it tends to freeze when holding the buttons while going through doors and stuff. I like using it though, and I will try and make more codes with it.
