    'Politcialy' Correct 'Holiday' terms?

There's been recent archaeological evidence found that points toward a December birth for Jesus. Also, look on any weather site at Jerusalem's climate...it's quite moderate the year round, with only an occasional snowfall.

Anyway, there are several holidays in this season...Christmas for us who believe in Jesus , Hanukkah for Jews, Kwanzaa for many black people among others. I think it's wrong for anyone in America to try to suppress the recognition of any of those holidays.

This is one reason I despise those New-Age-Liberals and the ACLU so much. they act as if the founders of this nation wrote "freedom FROM religion" in stead of freedom OF religion. The founders' intent was that the then-new federal govt. should NOT interfere whatsoever in the observance of any religion, within the limits of their culture.(For example, human sacrifice was banned from the gitgo, and no one in the USA today may legally sacrifice an animal in the name of religion.)

How two-faced is the ACLU? they support the rights of Moslems to bow toward Mecca & pray 3 times a day, while fighting the right of a Christian paramedic to witness to a patient in her ambulance...at the patient's request! Do the patient and the paramedic not have any religious freedom? Was the atheist driver who filed the complaint harmed in any way?

And what their fight, at the cost of some $40 million, to allow certain Indians to fry their brains with psylocybin and mescaline in the name of religion, while fighting a judge's right to display the Ten Commandments in his courtroom? OK by them for some people to ruin their minds & bodies with dope while NOT OK for someone to express his CHRISTIAN beliefs in a totally-harmless manner. Those ACLU idiots do NOT know the difference in "harm" and "offend"!

I hope every one of you had a merry Christmas, or a merry whatever-other holiday you mighta observed! And I hope you wished everyone else Merry Christmas if you observed it.You of the younger generation...FIGHT to preserve your freedom! Don't let the ACLU take it away! They are against all things Christian while supporting every pagan religion coming and going! They are walking, talking proof that Communism is alive and well in America!

Heh...this kind of conversation happens so easily.

It's one of those things I'd really like to join in on, but figure I shouldn't because it's something that really can't be won. The opposition would never play fair, though you really can't blame them, because they'd lose immediately if they did. That, and I'm probably just lazy. Either way, you guys shouldn't personally jab each other if you're going to have a debate, or debate if you're going to have a personal jabbing contest. It's just not good etiquette.

This just in...I don't deserve the air I breathe...

[Hmm...I didn't notice the above post]

I agree, there are some stupid, backward things going on...the far left, and far right, are completely wrong in their approach and desired end result. And yeah, the idea is to allow anyone to have any religion they like, or none at all, to the extent that it doesn't interfere with anyone else's rights. It's a delicate situation, but some of the things we do just don't make sense.

Wahahaha, I can't believe I didn't notice this topic until now. Allow me to inject some Edgarness....

First of all, Christmas is not the original end of december holiday. If we want to be true to the "reason for the season", we should all be saying Happy Winter Solstice, because it came first. It wasn't until later, hundreds of years after the birth of jesus (if he was indeed born) that it was decided after much arguing that the mass of christ should be held on december 25th. This was done to paste over the pagan celebration of winter solstice, in order to draw worshippers to christianity... It obviously worked pretty well, I have to hand it to them. The early christians were like... holiday ninjas... they did the same thing with easter, among others.

Now, I agree with some points made. Charlie Brown's christmas special should not be edited to remove the parts about jesus... That's just stupid. I hate it when people edit the artistic works of others at their own whim.

Back to the celebration of christmas. A lot of people don't seem to realize (or care) that most of their supposedly christian christmas traditions do not have christian origins.
Christmas trees? Nope, thank the pagans.
The giving of gifts? Nope, thank the pagans.
Hanging up mistletoe in the hopes of getting lucky? Nope, thank the pagans.
Staying up all night playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and eating nachos? Nope, thank the pagans.

Of course, after finding out that they are accidentally celebrating using pagan traditions, few christians stop. After all, if you are used to recieving gifts once a year on december 25th, why stop just because the tradition stems from the worship of other gods?

I guess the point of all of this is... Jesus is not the reason for the season, no one knows when or if he was born. There are 2 original "reasons for the season".

The first is astronomical. Because earth's axis is tilted, we get less sunlight during part of the year, and more during the other. This one you all should remember from science class, or "loafing around reading science books" if you were homeschooled like me. We get the least amount of sunlight in late december, generally the 21st or 22nd (it was the 21st this year).

The second is religious, pagan specifically. The 25th was celebrated as the birthday of any sun god worth knowing, and then some... Sol (of course), Mithra, Adonis, Baal, Krishna, Yahweh, Jehovah, Osiris, and so on. This is tied in with the first reason. After the day with the least amount of sunlight, the sunlight recieved daily increases, thus the sun god triumphs over darkness.

and now I am hungry... so I will leave you with that. Remember, if you want to see the reason for the season, just look up. It's the big orange thing. Happy belated Winter Solstice!

as a side note.... amy said "I fail to believe you can even love if you have no faith at all"... I have absolutely 0 faith, and I am perfectly cabable of loving. I find that a little bit insulting, it's like saying that a person is sub-human just because they don't happen to believe in any gods/goddesses/spirits/ect. I too, like Lazy, am not worth the air I breath.

oh yeah, another side note. Another cool astronomical holiday is coming up. Tomorrow (Jan 4th) is the day when earth is closest to the sun.

Sorry for taking all the 'space' to quote you here Phil, but all of what you said, I do agree on and with, though well as anyone can see, I am pretty well err....'strong' when it comes to voicing myself and such on certain matters in life and as well after life as well.

Otherwise, nice to see alot of input here, and opens my eyes to a few things here, all can say right now and so far is pretty glad that whole 'meeting thing' has not happened yet, as froms eeing a few points of everyone here, I am pretty sure now, that a meeting between all of us is not and would not be a very good thing in fact, with that any and all meeting talk from now on, I knidly decline, just for a matter of faith and such. After all, otherwise need to pull out more anyway, not much can do here nor wish to do, and I do have other issues in life to get on with and such, so eh well that is how those holiday cookies crumble after Christmas. :P

I am not leaving, not at all, just err well, just came to a small conclusion not to be really all 'out there' anymore with a few people on a certain number of things and such.
