Seriously. Every forum I go to lately I see all this "Like, Thanks, Rep, thread ratings." What the hell ever happened to just posting and not giving a shit if anyone liked what you had to say? I swear Facebook is causing everything to cater to attention whores now.

Everything is moving towards the "Social Status" cause by Facebook and other crap like that. I can't stand any of those social media sites! Do I really give a fuck about where you are or about to go do? apparently you seem to think everyone needs to know, not to mention a stalker could easily track your ass with all the "Tweeting" and "Status Updates". Just look at this video to get what I'm talking about, also "you" was geared towards no one in particular.

Heh, I agree. I don't know when these were added or why; I wasn't involved in that.
Giving thanks is a nice feature in theory, except that it cuts down on people posting to say Thanks...which is a double-edged sword (less posts, but less clutter).
We could have a poll asking if people think we should keep or remove Thanks and Like/Dislike (it's probably better to make that two separate polls).I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

I added them, for less clutter. LMZ liked the idea as well. I was also getting sick of the constant "Added" posts for codes, which is why I made the custom button. I did this a long time ago, and it was well received.
... I had a couple of paragraphs written about how everybody bitches and nobody gives a shit that I've worked hard for two years for free, but I know that's not entirely true and only how it seems. Plus I don't want to be a bitch myself.
Likes and thanks add rep. I know, "who gives a shit about rep". Dislikes do nothing.
The poll is a good idea. Even if we want to remove likes/thanks/dislikes, I still want to keep the added button.

The Added button is a great feature; that should stay.
Hopefully, everyone on staff knows how much ass rimsky82 has busted to make a lot of the great things here happen. At the same time, if bugs are discovered or someone has an idea as to how the site might be improved, discussion should be encouraged. Of course, it's a balance between people whining about every little thing and tiptoeing around a potential issue or idea because they don't want to offend anyone, and we should try to keep it somewhere in the middle (open discussion, with neither extreme).I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

I never pay attention to thanks, likes, dislikes, whatever. Don't care, and never did. Facebook has some stupid thing where if people don't "like" things then they don't appear or something stupid like that. I do like not going through "thanks" posts though. It's nice to thank people, but I'm more for right to the point info without going through thanks. That could be solved by moving useful info posts into the first few posts, but then there's really no warning to users going through posts, they'd miss things or think they got deleted. I also like skipping through pointless posts, or very dumb ones. I don't suppose there's a way to add a flag sort of system to posts for people to filter through things? A user could post more codes to a thread, and they could mark their own post as "codes". A user posts a question, the user flags it as a "question". A user posts thanks, flag it "comment" or something. A user posts codes, thanks somebody, and asks a few questions, they could mark them all. People could go to the thread looking only for codes, check the flag for "codes" in the thread and then only the posts marked as "codes" would show up. Nothing would be deleted, you'd just see what you want to see. Sounds like tags I suppose, but I never see those. Then there's the spammer putting every tag they can.
Don't know really.

Poll sounds good.
Agreed. I know I tend to bitch about everything and be a little harsh(?) at times, but people that are used to me know it's my nature to scream about little things and/or question everything. I rarely ever mean to be a dick about it, but people that don't know me well might read more into it.Originally posted by Lazy Bastard View PostThe Added button is a great feature; that should stay.

That's a neat idea for a forum like this. Even if we were to just make certain things (like codes) stand out somehow. I wonder what it would take to auto detect codes in general and highlight them in some way. Another quick thought would be to allow the topic creator to flag what's unimportant as they address questions/issues so those replies are hidden to others by default.Originally posted by bungholio View PostI never pay attention to thanks, likes, dislikes, whatever. I can make code format BB tags. It seems some were made at some time, but nobody uses them. I might then be able to put the added button only on posts using those tags, but editing vb can be a pain in the ass. I'd have to make a new plugin or something.Originally posted by Viper187 View PostThat's a neat idea for a forum like this. Even if we were to just make certain things (like codes) stand out somehow. bungholio, that's not a bad idea, but would be a pain to integrate if it's not already a vb plugin. Then there are also users who will complain about having to add those tags on all their posts.
dlevere, many people like the reputation points so they know who they can trust. It's helpful to someone that doesn't know our main userbase. And, I still say I'm for either likes, thanks, or both, not so much dislikes. Just the thanks button would be good too.

I'm really thinking about a way add something extra that allows maybe the post maker, other users, or admins to label things. Imagine 5 users going through a post and being able to click some things to tag the thread as being "codes" and "questions" while not marking it "thanks", "offtopic", "rant", "comments", "info", "news", "important", or whatever. There could even be a thing to vote against some of those flags, like certain users seeing maybe an angry attack towards some user or whatever and that user marks their posts as everything, they could click to unmark it as those flags to so maybe 5 users click to not mark it as that vs the 1 marking it as that, you'd have -4 so it wouldn't show up under the certain filters it was marked as not being.

You know that option on the posting screen "Automatically parse links in text"? That's what I'm suggesting to identify codes. Parse the input and highlight (bold/underline/font change/combo of those) text that would be valid codes (addresses/values of specific lengths made of only valid code characters) for any system when the BB code tags aren't used, with an option for the user to turn it off like the link parsing. It would definitely require some finessing, but it could work. Making them bold with a monospace(?) font like Terminal would be my first choice.Originally posted by rimsky82 View PostI can make code format BB tags. At first I thought this would be too complicated, but the more I think about it the more I like it. I want to do something that will detect codes in current posts without having to do any editing. I'm going to look into this. Kickass.Originally posted by Viper187 View PostYou know that option on the posting screen "Automatically parse links in text"?
