  • GSHI gets a new name? Suggestions welcome...

After much consideration, we've decided to rename GSHI

Of course, we will retain the GSHI.org domain name (and related names).

However, we're currently not completely decided as to what to rename it to. GSHI has acquired several new domain names, and it's likely that one of these will become the primary domain name (and thus, the actual name) of GSHI, but we're always open to other suggestions as well. In case you're unaware, these are the new domains:

    GameHacking.org
    GameEnhancer.org
    WalkThroughWalls.com
    WalkThroughWalls.org
    DebugRoom.org
    CodeCreators.org

Currently, we're leaning toward GameHacking.org, though DebugRoom.org is also a decent name. CodeCreators.org is another possibility, and then there are probably a dozen other ideas out there in the minds of GSHI's members...

Let us know what you think!

I like GameHacking.org and DebugRoom.org for potential new names, although the first is so simple and gets to the point. Maybe have a poll for the names and see which gets the most votes.

I agree; those two names stand out the most to me, as well. We probably will have a poll, but I want to get staff opinion first, if possible. Also, I'm still considering other names for a day or two before I submit anything to public opinion.

In that case how about Video Game Hacking network (VGHN)?
I like that. GameHacking.org/net works too. To toss in another... Cheat Codes Etc. Or maybe something along the lines of Game Hackers Consortium?

Yeah, apparently VGHN.org is an available domain. It's worth considering, though I kind of like the idea of getting out from under four-letter abbreviations. At least we'd have an aswer to the question, "What does that stand for?", heh.

Godda remember those gsccc and later cmgscc days. Think people asked what those stand for then?

Yes, all the time. And there was an easy answer to that question. GSHI doesn't even currently stand for anything.

Incidentally, CodeCreators.org is also apparently available.

Ooooohh that almost sounds like the classic Game Genies Creators Club, might bring in all sorts of oldies but I like the GameHacking one best so far.

Yeah, I grabbed CodeCreators.org. I think we will settle on GameHacking.org. Now for some logos, a new site layout, etc

Well, I'm no artist. You guys will come up with something good. I can offer a useless idea though, I guess. I was thinking about some colorful ascii art... like a title with the letters spelled out in binary. I dunno. Just a thought.

That's a pretty cool logo, helder. I'm not sure if we should have an animated logo on our main page, but I'm sure we could use it somewhere. Perhaps you could grab the middle frame as a non-animated logo? Also, we should use GameHacking.org in the logo, since we don't own the domain(s) GameHackers.xxx.

Viper187: Potentially, if someone could come up with something that combines that with something more artistic. But then, I never really liked using binary, hex, etc, just to illustrate that we deal with data at the bit/byte level...it seems gimmicky.

We should probably also add "Previously GSHI.org" in small print in the corner of the logo, so people don't think GSHI was acquired by another group, or disappeared and had its logo picked up by another site.

                            Keeping the ball rolling...

If we're not stuck on gamehacking.org, I like words like the previously mentioned consortium indicating that we're a group of hackers. But of course, this might bring about initials again...

gamehacking.org is good, and I also like debugroom.org. I agree that using the word rom wouldn't be too accurate since some of us still use original hardware, and isos are really not considered roms.

If we are stuck on it, I like it.

my two cents as the new guy.

I do like the idea of using something like Consortium, but the two issues I have with it are:

                              1. Yeah, the initials thing.
                              2. So many sites have come and gone using names like that. Alliance, Syndicate, Guild, Club...I don't like using construct-related nouns at the end of a name. It feels juvenile, because so many people have done it in respective efforts to NOT sound juvenile.

That's a nice logo, by the way.

Yeah, honestly, I'm still torn between GameHacking.org and DebugRoom.org (though I'm still open to other ideas as well). GameHacking is very straight, to the point, and DebugRoom is not only a specific type of code with relevance to hackers and code users, but also sounds like a physical location. But then, perhaps DebugRoom.org is too specific to those who know what a debug room is, and might thus detract from the clarity of our projected purpose. Also, CodeCreators.org is something worth considering. It is, as helder said, reminiscent of the Golden Age of hacking, and it also sets us apart from other people that are branded 'hackers' by the uneducated masses: pirates and hardware modifiers. But then, just by reading the domain name, you wouldn't really know what we do (you wouldn't even know we're video game related).

Just thoughts. I think GameHacking.org is still the head runner.
