Sounds an interesting idea. Not really my cup of tea though if ROM/Program Code cheats are not allowed, finding RAM cheats is a bit boring. I take it the system chosen uses ROM code rather than loading the code into RAM?

The system can allow both. Actually, now that I think about it, there's no reason why the codes can't be ROM/GG codes...I was mostly just specifying so people didn't think they had to hack ROM codes if they didn't want to/know how to. I suppose I'll change that rule.

I've added a page to the GSHI wiki for the GSHI Anniversary Contest: http://gshi.org/wiki/GSHI_Anniversary_Contest

A link to this page will be added to the site, and it will eventually serve as the official GSHI Anniversary Contest page. For now, it's simply a collection of incomplete information.

Cool, may give it a go if I'm around July time.

The info on the page is a bit confusing, do you get 8 hours to PM the codes for each game or is it 48 hours after the first game is unveiled to PM codes for all 3 games.

BTW, there's conflicting information:- "A link to the emulator and required ROM is given at the last minute," & "Lazy Bastard unveils the emulator to be used, and an unimportant, public domain ROM, two days prior to the opening of the competition".

Thanks for pointing both of those out. This is just a rough draft at this point, because I wanted to get the ball rolling early and put together a logical system that handles as many variables as possible (and it was fairly late at night when I wrote some of this, heh). I'll fix those

OK, I've decided on the emulator, ROMs, and all hacks for the Hacking Competition. Now, we need help deciding what medium to use for the Gaming Tournament!

hmm anyone ever heard of 2DF Freeplay? its basically a mame type emulator that works on pretty much any *Windows* based pc (sorry MIR you cant play again). Its easy to setup and use and I believe it uses the Adobe Air module and you will need NetFrame work 3.0+ . Then we can all get the *games* at a later date after there have been a vote on what people want to play.

Would it be an improvement over last year's MAME emu, in terms of internet playability?

Ah, cool. Would it allow a third party to watch the bout?

OK, now that I've mostly unwound from E3, and taken care of the bulk of loose ends to do with that and a few other GSHI projects, we need to nail down the Gaming Tournament, so we can spread the word about the Anniversary Contest for a month or so before it starts.

If time permits, I'll check out that MAME emu tonight; everyone toss in any info, ideas, etc ASAP.

you know I'm all about the fighting games ,so if any fighting games show up as being in the tourney I'm up for. I believe its this same emulator I was talking about here that you can have spectators watching the matches.

Yes, yes, we all know you're angry, helder

Heh, yeah, fighting games are essential for a tournament. I think we should do the tournament somewhat like we did last year, with one game from each of three categories (fighting/sports/puzzle, for example).

Also, Gamer Grub's staff has agreed to partially sponsor our contest with a case of Gamer Grub, so a few packs will be tossed in with the winnings from each part. I've updated the Contest page on the main site (actually, it's on the wiki, but it's linked to under Community on the main site).

cool beans, with this emulator we should have less trouble getting everyone connected to play, now we just need people to give us some game ideas and actually sign up.
