      Yep, it's 2016, time for every month to be another struggle where within 4 days the site goes down and who knows if it will come back. I'm not sure if it is hacked, but I know nothing of how sites operate. I get the feeling it will be "We need to wait to contact this one dude who we have no way of contacting or is never around or something and we'll see what happens." I forget, but something like that. But Skiller was in the process of redesigning and upgrading the site, so who knows. I wouldn't immediately think it was hacked though.

        Looks pretty borked to me. I can view the forums via the admincp, but that's about it.

          Under the overlay there are these lines:
          be sure to include the correct path for your $forumpath variable.'; exit; } chdir($forumpath); } $phrasegroups = array(); $globaltemplates = array(); $actiontemplates = array(); $specialtemplates = array(); require_once('./includes/vba_cmps_include_template.php'); require_once('./global.php'); print_portal_output($home); ?>

          Just for curiosity. I don't know what this could means.

            At this point, my answer is, "who gives a shit"? It mainly exists as a historical repository now.

              I wonder if this site has some kind of backup just in case it gets hacked. One time I deleted some codes by mistake and rimsky said he had no way of recovering them. Thankfully other sites had the same codes.

              For example, I technically have a lot of power. I can delete and edit cheats to my liking. What if someone with that power goes rogue and starts deleting or editting tons of codes? How could we get them back?

                Well one way would be to copy the "soft delete" function of vbulletin. That feature is one of the big reasons why I chose vbulletin as a cms for all the codes/cheats that I add over at my site.

                14. There are two types of deletions in vBulletin: Soft-delete and hard-delete. Soft-delete effectively 'hides' the post from the users. Administrators and Moderators can still access and view that post, and can un-delete / restore the post if needed.Whereas Hard-delete removes the post from the database, with almost no chance of recovery.

                  Rimsky probably takes periodic backups, but if you enter data and then delete it between scheduled runs, the data is lost. Unless you can manually recover it from the transaction logs. I'm assuming MySQL has gotten that robust now, since it tries to be an enterprise solution. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if most websites run with less cumbersome log settings, and even if it's fully logged, it would have to be your birth certificate or something to make it worth the effort without a third-party tool to simplify things.

                  Edit: As for CMP, I had a scheduled backup of the forum going at one point, but I think the host broke it and it never got reinstated. As for other content, I didn't have sufficient access to do anything other than copy what I could see with an FTP account.

                    I hope the site is up again soon, I should really visit and save every single page again, it's been about a year. PS3 section is still active, not sure about any other sections.

                      Well, as far as someone going rogue and going on a mad deletion spree, it all comes down to trusting those you chose to give power to. I have the power to do much damage at CMP, but I'm not some kind of petty child that would chose to resort to destruction over some kind of perceived injustice. I would simply walk away. Basically, I would assume whoever gave you the power you describe trusts that you are not a mentally unbalanced, childish person that would chose to abuse it. Much as I assume that Pyriel trusted that I wasn't that kind of person either when he made me an admin at CMP.

                      I would also assume that Lazy, LMZ and then Rimsky have taken measures here to mitigate damage in such an instance anyway. Especially after a former admin accidentally a whole subforum once upon a time.

                              I feel your pain, Skiller. There is much history on that forum. Many of us have devoted years and thousands of posts to help keep it going and to see it getting kicked in the face and left to slowly die in the gutter is sad. It is what it is.
