  • What do you see technology being like in 50 years?

In the year 2065, I have a series of rough predictions I can cautiously make. The word "cautiously" comes into play, because sometimes, the very act of predicting some future event changes the future in and of itself, due to time's quantum nature.

The only prophecies which I KNOW will come true are found throughout the Bible's New Testament.

The predictions I am about to make about technology in the year 2065, are not meant to be ironclad prophecies, as I am not a prophet. I am simply trying to stimulate discussion on what we, as a species, may be able to achieve in the next 50 years, given how scientific and technological progress has been accelerating at an ACCELERATING rate (try to wrap your head around THAT one! LOL).

In the year 2065, you may be able to access the Internet, free of charge, from ANYWHERE in the world, from your now-portable PC.

A push for PC portability has already (sort of) begun. Tablets are sometimes referred to as "tablet PCs" now, as they often have the equivalent power of PCs of about three years ago.

In 2065, the average tablet PC on the market for about 250 dollars (give or take) will be able to outperform some of today's fastest supercomputers (such as China's Tianhe-2).

The concept of "all-in-one" will be taken to the extreme--keyboards and mice will have gone the way of the dodo.

There won't be any "console wars" in 2065. In fact, there won't be any dedicated video-game consoles to speak of, except for those which are still in use by very dedicated video-game memorabilia collectors.

All video games will be created specifically for the now prevalent portable PC. Even Nintendo will produce general-purpose portable PCs, as well as games for it.

Multiple operating systems will be a thing of the past, as a universal OS will have been developed, officially ending the "silent competition" between Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. This universal OS will NOT be a Microsoft product, but a collaborative effort between Microsoft, Apple and the creators of Linux.

Go ahead and tell me what your predictions are (or call BS on mine ).
    Tempus fugit, ergo, carpe diem.

Time flies, therefore, seize the day.

I see it being a bunch of slow shit, nobody can afford anything, and nothing new ever comes along. Basically it's the same as it always has been before. This world feels like a permanent standstill.

Am I going to see new amazing computers? No. Every new bell and whistle is indistinguishable from the last.

Will there be new life saving technology? I read about new stuff nonstop, nothing ever goes beyond research. Actually, that is literally everything. I read new and amazing things constantly, and that's as far as anything ever goes and it is never created for the public beyond that point. It is mentioned, documented, probably has some videos, and you never see it again from that point onward.

I don't see things getting better, I just keep hoping they don't get worse.

Maybe we will know the "Magic" of "Magic" Johnson. Your mentioning of new life saving tech brought him to mind, it's always bugged me that this man has been alive for so long when many people from that era that had HIV died shortly after a few years and its got to be around 20 years or so now. There must have been some new tech that saved him since he could have afforded it and the average joe couldn't. The thing with any new tech is that it's always ridiculously expensive so only some hospitals or even countries can afford it, I would like to see these technologies be available all over. Oh and that maybe we can reach the speeds of Japan and other top internet speed pumping countries.

I think you're reading the wrong things or looking in the wrong places or waiting for the world to leap into the 24th century all at once, bung. Like a creationist wondering why men aren't popping out of chimp vaginas, ready to take over the rainforest.

Just off the top of my head, laparoscopy was developed in my lifetime, and it's now the norm for many surgeries. HIV is no longer a slow death sentence with the therapies we have now. A few new vaccines have been developed. If I thought a little longer or looked back through the archives I could certainly find more. If you're holding of on being impressed until somebody makes one of those beds from Elysium, it'll be a while.

You're looking at progress like it only counts if it's 100% original. I guess all progress halted when Leonardo da Vinci died then, since he was supposedly the last human being to have a truly original thought.

I do have high crazy expectations, but the things I see around me seemed sudden like a decade of random things and they just stopped. Seemed like stick and stones and suddenly there's computers, internet, medical advances, and all kinds of things. It was like a sudden acceleration and now a crawl.

"Developed this and tested on animals and they effortlessly survived or cured anthrax/ebola/AIDS/diabetes/countless other things and found all kinds of crazy awesome useful medical things to enhance your mind and health and whatever else"

"Created this new thing and it stores 10000000000000x more memory and works 100000000x faster and other things for computers, made this special CPU that goes 1000000x faster than the best today and blah blah blah blah".

I've just been reading stuff for about 2 decades and I'm finally sick of it all and stopped reading everything about a year ago. They almost suggest they've solved countless things and have in every way improved upon everything else, yet I never see anything beyond the mention of the research and some rare cases of videos to go with them. Too much stuff hyping me up and never a thing to show for it, it just vanishes forever like it never existed to begin with. By far the most common thing I see is financial problems with everything. Nobody can ever afford the materials and tools necessary to do things. Money has frozen this world in place.

I'm aware of the vaccines that are available but I was simply referring to the early 90's where I doubt any vaccine was available.

I was just using HIV as an unrelated example. Magic Johnson is possibly on the cusp of genetic immunity to HIV or something, because he never even started to deteriorate as far as I can see.

I dunno about there being one console, but there were rumors of Microsoft getting out of the gaming buisiness, but that never happened. Nintendo continues to turn around failed consoles into somewhat profitable ones. I dunno if keyboards and mice could dissapear tho. I find them more convenient and easy to use than touching screens. When you need to move around alot or quickly the mouse gots to top touching the screen and dragging your finger. And keyboards, noone is setting any typing records typing on a flat screen. With a keyboard you can "feel" where the keys are. If you press it, it registers too. It's not always like that with touchscreens I think.
