  • Nintendo closing Rom hacking and speedrunning channels

    By Pablomf6

Well, Nintendo is shutting down rom hacking or TASing YouTube channels. Be aware!

I recommend you to delete all the videos related to that content in your channel, if you don't want to get banned from Youtube.

    EDIT:
By making a derivative work using Nintendo's IP, and then displaying Nintendo's IP on your YouTube channel, you have violated Nintendo's exclusive rights.

Here is a thread talking about that on Destructoid.com:

Oh look, Nintendo is being dumb again. How surprising.....
Well. I'm sick of this, if they don't want to survive in modern times and want to keep thinking that it's the 90's then they can go ahead and keep doing this until none of their costumers want anything to do with them anymore.

I am now going to hack the shit out of their games and proudly show off my work on my channel and piss them off.
    I'm retired from code hacking.
    I do not take requests!

Well this is enough for them to lose sales and people boycoting them. Keep in mind that Nintendo isn't having the best of sales. This is technically fair use, so there might be a lot of interesting lawsuits, is going to create a lot of angry gamers.

Do they ever state what their issue is with things, or is it just the corporate crap of "mine, take it down" with no reason ever being stated? Some people are kind enough on this planet to take things down if requested.

With the exception of one, my videos use real hardware and are played through a capture device. I took the time to disassemble my gameboy game genie and hook it up to my super game boy to show off some of my gameboy codes.

With that said, it is because of TAS and speedrunners that most of their retro stuff is still popular. What about the speedrunners that use real hardware to play the games, and raise millions for charity? Are they going to shut them down, too? That would really be a terrible move. If they had any problem with them, and had any sense at all, they'd give permission and offer their support.

I'm willing to bet Super Mario Maker wouldn't be half as exciting if these guys never existed. Nintendo should be thanking them and writing them checks, not shutting them down.
Please put all complaints in writing and submit them here.

Yeah but at the end of the Nintendo doesn't care and will keep doing this. People in this day in age lack enough spirit and resolve within them to boycott a popular business to the point of where said business gives in and stops their BS behavior. They still will support Nintendo regardless of what they do, so what do you expect? Youtube has been garbage for years due to their broken flagging system that is used as a tool of censoring critics of other people, and whistlebowers of information.

Any random person can flag a video for no real reason and still have it taken down if they wanted to! I've seen many channels go down because some troll that doesn't like said person's content or opinion over something and will just flag enough videos until the channel is gone. That is what happened to my first channel back in the day! Let's not forget all the stupid layout changes and taking away features which is another story. That is why I would just use something like Dailymotion (high views be damned) along with backing up all my videos if I can. Youtube can go suck it, and I don't even care about Nintendo or any other video game developer these days since I don't care about the current gaming scene as it is! Nintendo is only a shell of what it once was when it came to what they used to represent in the gaming world and this just proves it even more.

            I'm done ranting!

Wow, my videos are the exact same thing, for the most part. Time stands still. 0.o

Any business subject to abuse of their fans and customers is sure to take a noticeable dive. The more traction the people have over sales, the more likely it is for the business to take note and change its ways.

My YouTube channel was hit by their strike hammer, too. 10 of my videos have been removed (4 Splatoon, 2 SA2B and 4 F-Zero GX videos).
But the Splatoon videos were the only ones with content matches (due the audio).
                Got following (ridiculous) message:

"No Title" sure is meaningful >.>

However, YouTube allows me to reupload the other 6 deleted videos:

But why did they take it down then?!?!

However, it seems to be a tiny bit saver when you disable the BGM of a game (thanks to cheats).

Does anyone of you know my Wind Waker Chaos edition? Well, the full stream's recording has disappeard from Vinesauce's channel. If Nintendo has demanded YT to remove it then we are really allowed to call Nintendo a$$holes. The charity stream collected money for cancer research. During the Wind Waker Chaos Edition stream about $5100 were gained. In the beginning of the stream the news about Iwata being passed away due cancer became public. Probably another reason the WWCE stream has gained so much money for cancer research. Everyone in the chat and Vinny have thought about him.
And Nintendo has probably demanded yt to take down the recorded stream...
