  • Geiger's SNES9X Debugger Crash Cure

I recently had to deal with Geiger's SNES9X Debugger in a way that I hadn't expected to need to. Every few times I disassembled some code, the program would freeze up, and take up a lot of CPU time, until I had to end the task.

If you're experiencing this, then run 'Regedit', go to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Emulators\', then rename or delete the key 'Geiger's Snes9x Debugger'

Run Geiger's SNES9X Debugger again, and try disassembling some more code a few times, and it should work without any issues at that point. Be sure to note any changes made to the interface. The only changes I can recall making are to setup and enable Joypad #2(with a few number pad buttons overlapping some internal buttons), and enabling the CPU Trace Option 'Tabbed Output'

    Update:
I've managed to reproduce this error using a combination of enabling the 'Trace Once' option in the debugger window, and flipping the 'Aspect Ratio' settings on and off in the 'Options>Display Configuration' window.
This reality is mine. Go hallucinate your own.

Re: Geiger's SNES9X Debugger Crash Cure

There's an additional crash that seems possible when using Geiger's SNES9X Debugger.

Certain cheat code types, such as the Megaman 9(Megaman & Bass) codes that give you all CDs, and other codes that affect SRAM will crash the game if they're enabled when you start the game, and if it's the first game you load when you start the emulator. Switching from some other game that has no problems to the game that does have problems will allow you to access the game with the codes enabled from the start. Turning off the codes keeps it from crashing the next time you load the game.

I figure I should make a note of this, in case anybody has the idea to do so. This version of snes9x is extremely unstable if it's not actually running in windows. While it'll sort of work in an environment such as Wine, it's really flaky trying to run it like that.

Where is this goddamn Geiger? I want a version that can hack games like Mario RPG. I seem to remember breakpoints not working on that, last I tried.
