  • FCEUX Hacking Video Tutorials

I have decided to make some tutorial based videos to give something back to the community (I asked a lot of questions when I started this a very long time ago.), and possibly encourage the next set hackers to stand up and be noticed. These videos will range from the bare basics to some of the more advanced hacks currently being done today (NES). When I get a chance I hope to make videos of the following:

    • Convert Infinite Types (Use previously found addresses in ram videos.)
    • Reverse Counters
    • Increase Maximum Limit (Lives, Health, etc...)
    • Others..

Abystus, once you post those hacking tutorials, that is when I will start to learn how to hack. So you can atleast know for sure that you have atleast helped teach one person. I will watch your videos, read tutorials made by some of the hackers from this website, and Rey said he'd help me too. So I look foward to begin whenever you are ready. I hope you obviously start with the bare basics of hacking, which I'm sure you will.

Sounds great! I'm surprised I never hacked any NES codes. It's one of my favorite consoles.

I am currently waiting on my mic to arrive so I can do some recordings. Until things get going check out Making Your Own Cheats to begin creating your very own codes. This should provide enough information (and pictures) for anyone to start hacking their own codes. This is a very basic outline (how my first videos will be), that goes step by step for the beginning hacker. Hopefully it will be a motivating experience for you .

So I've been debating on how to tackle the sequence of videos being released in this series. I also have been through a bit of dental work (hate the dentist) recently, so my voice may not be as clear as it could be. I've decided to break the explanation of Hex, Decimal, and Binary conversions into existing videos already on youtube. The first in the series of my hacking videos has been completed, and now available at:

Basic Game Hacking: Known Value Search (Visible)

Video (not mine) on Bits & Bytes can be found at:

Computer Architecture Lesson 1: Bits and Bytes

Videos (not mine) on Hexadecimal, Decimal, and Binary conversions can be found below:

                Convert Decimal to Hexadecimal

                Convert Hexadecimal to Decimal

                Convert Decimal to Binary

                Convert Binary to Hexadecimal

I decided to skip the intro to the search screen as users should pick up it's basic uses from interaction while following the video series. Since I am not bound to do these in sequence, if someone requests a video ahead of time I may be able to accommodate. Also if this site wishes to host these videos I can upload them as I go, or when the series is complete. Hope this helps a few people get into hacking, and hopefully explains things in an informative manner. Happy hacking!

I liked your first video... nice, simple, and clear. To be honest, I didn't watch all the other videos made by other people because they didn't show how to hack video games. I guess they were just a background of how stuff works. I look foward to seeing your next video.

Thanks. The other videos are in reference to the different ways that values can be interpreted within the game environment. Memory addresses contain hexadecimal values, which are conversions of decimal values we use from day to day. It's important to know at least how to count in hex vs decimal to be successful at understanding how to change a hex based value to represent your requested decimal value. The binary conversions were linked due to the videos later covering bit-wise (ASM) operators in later videos that will discuss ROM hacking and Game Genie conversion.

Abystus, when do you think you will make the next hacking tutorial video?

As soon as I can escape the dentist... Have to have 1 crown done really soon, and one finished that currently has a temp on it (also had a root canal with this one in which the dentist broke the file in my tooth so I had to get an Endodontist to finish the job). I swear my life is full of needles, drills, and dentists... Hopefully it won't be too much longer until the next video is up. Now go brush your teeth!

Ok, I look foward to seeing it.

I've never had a cavity nor any kind of dental problems in my life. I also have never broken a bone in my life. Or as the segment on Tosh.0 would say, "I'm better than you, nah nah nah poo poo."

Consider yourself lucky. I'm sure it will happen eventually, but the day it does remember these words "Needles hurt regardless of how much they say they wont, and ask to be sedated before having a crow/root canal done" .
