  • PS2 QUESTION

hey what's up up guys. just wondering whats the best method of getting a memory dump of a game and how one should go about troubleshooting dumping issues (freezing, not working, and everything in between haha). i'm really surprised that there isn't more discussion about this topic.

What are you using to dump memory? Artemis?

i didn't know that Artemis had such a feature, i attempted to search for Artemis but all the links are broken. Most of the time i'll do a quick save dump and end up working in that but lately on some of the games i've been messing around on like Jak & Daxter i can't seem to get it to work, and i freeze every time, i'm going to be really happy if i can get around dumping via Artemis haha

For homebrew there is artemis/ps2rd, livedebug, and some debugger from some guy at a game assembly website called Kermit I think. For PC, there's a few different versions of the emulator Pcsx2, and I've never tried any others. For cheat devices or modifying a game's elf file you can modify some game's to dump the contents of memory when you save or by pressing a button. I don't know what else there would be.

yes, i've heard of a method of dumping via a pc emulator, but dont you need some sort of crossover cable? also do you have either Artemis or ps2rd on hand that you can set up a download link (whenever you have time) so i can give dumping via homebrew a try? thanks for all the information guys

Ah; the Artemis page has been updated, and links are now restored. The source code repo isn't yet implemented, and there is still work to be done on the Artemis page, but it's at least functional for the time being.
