I just have to keep the switch in the down position & lightly pull up on it so the switch will make contact. Then it works perfectly.
The switch is starting to break free from the solder on the PCB, which isn't unusual due to the amount of use the switch gets. If the problem gets too bad, it can be soldered down again, which should be a trivial fix.

    2. When it asks about "the starting value" , Are they making reference to the very 1st value you were searching for or is this the last value that you used the trainer on?
The "Change of status" only does true/false checking. It could work with just 2 characters, but "Slow but sure" is recommended.

When you first start the trainer on either, you begin by selecting "Accept current value as start value" That means if you were playing as Character A when you pressed reset and started the trainer, all future comparisons are against that. Later, when you reset the game, "Same as start" would mean you were playing as Character A again, "Different to start" would be another character.

You have been a great help. Thank you. I'm going to do some serious hacking with this thing now.

I'm sorry. I need to ask yet another question:

When I am trying to do a search for lives or a known number of things, how do you search for numbers greater than 99? I'm familiar with HEX digits, but on the trainer, there's no a, b, c, d, e, or f. For example: if I was trying to find a code to have $1,000. Is it actually two codes where the first two digits are found in one address & the other two are found in the second?

1000 decimal is hex $03E8, so it's 2 bytes. But since PAR codes modify 2 bytes at once, it would take just one code. Probably the best method to use in the trainer is the Energy bar one. Start the game, and open a shop window where it says you have $1,000. Press reset, start trainer, select Energy, and Accept Current Value As Start (this means $1,000 will be "100%" money). Start the game, open the shop window, spend $500. Press reset, continue with trainer, select "about 50%" Repeat this a few more times with different values like $250 (25%), and so on.
