  • FF7 Character Pics

This is a code i have been trying to hack for some time.

I basically would like the ability to change the character pictures in the menu on FF7..

My initial ideas have been that the values for these pictures may be as follows.

    Cloud - 00
    Barret - 01
    Tifa - 02
    Aerith - 03
    Red 13 - 04
    Yuffie - 05
    Cait Sith - 06

and so on.. I am not sure if these values are correct for there individual pictures but it is just an idea. Also i am not sure if I will be able to change the pictures without changing character.

I have been experimenting with exact value searches but have come up with nothing.

The reason I am looking for a code like this is because i would like to change clouds picture to sephiroths picture..

So if anyone has the ability to find the address for Clouds picture i would be most appreciative.

    Thanx

It might also be something like this:

    0 - Cloud
    1 - Tifa
    2 - Barret
    3 - Red XIII
    4 - Blah
    5 - Cait Sith
    6 - Blah
    7 - Cid

"Blah" digits (both of them, and any others discovered) are always either invisible sprites, the character right after them, or some miscellaneous character like an average townsperson. This list, therefore, will not always have the correct digits, but will usually have the correct order of characters within your party. Use it as a possible reference, not as a guide.

But it could be what you mentioned, which coincides with another list I made of in-town character graphics:

    0 - Cloud
    1 - Barret
    2 - Tifa
    3 - Aeris
    4 - Red XIII
    5 - Yuffie
    6 - Cait Sith
    7 - Vincent
    8 - Cid
    9 - Young Cloud
    A - Sephiroth

Take a look at the FF7 In-Town Graphic Mod project (something myself and LiquidManZero worked on some time ago, and still work on from time to time), here: http://gshi.org/?s=faqs&id=92

It doesn't directly address your endeavor, but it will likely provide useful information.

Thanks for the response.. I had a look at your codes and had some fun running around town as tifa!

Ur values for the characters seem to follow the same logic as my theory for the in menu pictures. I have a feeling though that the address for the menu pictures and the actual sprite which you control are not located close to eachother. I will attempt to limit my search to the area around ur sprite control codes and see if i come up with anything but i have had 0 luck so far and it is really starting to annoy me..

I guess one of the reasons is because i am lazy myself. I feel that i have the code already but it is in a mix with a few hundred other codes that i still need to test. But i am running only on a theory of the values and therefore cant bring myself to test over 200 codes if i will still come up with nothing.

I am very much an amatuer with coding, so any help with finding this address would be appreciated. I mean it has to be out there!

      Thanx again Lazy Bastard

      P.S
I noticed that there is a few projects and things on the FF7 codes page on the site.

I would very much like to post my project here with the codes i have been working on.

Basically i am trying to create a sephiroth playthrough for FF7. This sort of thing has been done before for the PC version, however i have not yet seen a formidable playthrough for the PSX version, which lets face it, is better to play. So through some HEX editing i would like to see this dream become a reality.

I have written many codes already for this and would like ur input and others on possible changes. Also the sprite control codes which you urself have worked on would definately be a handy addition to such a project.

Could this possibly be an additional project on the site? If not i understand, as many of you are most probably working on ur own projects.

Though i could really use the help and input

      Thanx

Of course it could be a project. Lay it out as you'd like it displayed, and we'll add it.

        And, no problem.

As for input, as I need to go crash out at the moment, I'll just give this for now: keep in mind the maximum amount of active codes at one time for each of the cheat systems (I think it differs between those versions below 3.0, those between 3.0 and 3.2, and the CDX versions). You may want to cap it out at the smallest max; you could also break it up into chunks for sections of the game, and make instructions for the players to, at certain predefined points, save, restart the system, change codes, and resume.

This could be an interesting project. Keep us posted. If you go anywhere with it, we'll add it to the News on the main page.

No worries.. The biggest problem is the possible limitations on the amount of codes active at any one time.

I have put the codes into different sections so that when different weapons and armors are equiped through a system of codes then others are switched off.. Also i have devised a a system for sephiroths levels. With the changing of codes each 10 levels (meaning that you do not have the satisfaction of a boost in stats each level but rather a jump every 10) The reason for this is because of the tedious act of entering codes. So I would like to minimise the amount of codes but at the same time i do not want to take away from the experience.

I will post the codes that i am working on at the moment.

Also a big thanx to anyone who is willing to help me with these codes. Mainly i am looking at the code for changing clouds picture into sephiroth.. Also a possible Code for changing sephiroths materia wen you change clouds. (it is easy to change his materia with codes, but if there were a code to change sephiroths/vincents materia to that which cloud has equiped it would make life much easier)

Thanx Lazy Bastard and any others who would like to help.

Here are the codes I have so far.

These Name codes are simply chaning the names of certain items and other things. Basically making the things in the game a bit more sephiroth like.
I have also finished the armor codes but am still working on the a bit.

And thanx for the help from CzarDragon for the weapon modification codes. Some of them were used here and were a big help.
I will be adding more codes to this very soon. But for the moment this is a start.

These weapon codes are to be added as you would like to equip each weapon. Sephiroths weapon name will always read 'Masamune' However the stats of the weapon will change as these codes are initiated. As the level codes are activated with one set at a time, so are these. If you activate buster sword, please disable it before activating hardedge and so on.

Sorry it took me so long to notice your email (or this thread). You probably noticed I spent a lot of time on this particular game. Sadly, I can't figure this one out either. I tried a few things, but no luck. There's an address that follows the character mod digits (8009D391) for slot 1 (8009CBDD), but it doesn't seem to be of any help. I did notice one interesting detail that screams to me this should be possible. When you change the character mod value at 8009CBDD while in the menu, the name updates but not the picture. It's like something checks the character mod later to set the pic.

Viper187 i have seen a lot of your codes.

I was working on the values for the battle mod codes and as i had them almost finished i realised that you had posted all the values for them haha.

And i also saw promise in the address at 3009CBDC for first, DD for second and DC for the third position. This code changed the name and the entire character stats, which leads me to believe that the picture is stored elsewhere. because even after a reset and start with the codes on the picture stays the same when a random character is selected.. I am going to start searching again for possibilities in the changing of the pictures. I will let you know of any further developments.

And thanx for ur time guys. I am just an amatuer at this stuff but the codes that the two of you have written are legendary. If only King Edgar would join the party then i'd have talked to all those i respect most in coding.

              Thanx again

You're forgetting LiquidManZero, Rainsphere, ZoMBiE343, and probably some others

Very much so.. I am possibly missing many of the great coders out there.

LiquidManZero has had some codes which i have learnt from in the past. And many others which i have neglected to name.

But on a more depressing note i have continued my search for the character picture changing code. At one point i found a very promising code which looked and acted perfectly. unfortunately not correct.

I haven't given up yet tho. And i will be posting some more codes i have been working on soon...

I was also thinking that perhaps it would be a good idea to use some sort of HEX program like HEX workshop in order to modify the entire game. Mainly for text codes which can be activated throughout the game and never changed.

Would that lessen the maximum number of codes to be active at any one time?

It is simply a thought and something i have never tried. Not even sure if its possible

I'm sure it's possible, but you'd have to have a way to boot backups, and assume that users of your code will also have a way of doing that. I'd stick with RAM-hacking.

Ok some news on the character picture mod code. I am convinced it does not exist. After extensive code search i drew many codes which looked promising but unfortunately none worked. After sifting through so many codes i began to realise that this code just wasn't going to happen. If anyone believes they can find it then please give it a go.

However i did not give up there. I was convinced that there was still a way in order to do this. I came back to the character change code (3009CBDC 1st position, DD 2nd, DE, 3rd). I used this in order to change the character in either position to sephiroth, for example 3009CBDC 000A to change the first position to sephiroth. After this i loaded the USO menu (the secret menu used to change characters like the PHS) from there u simply hit back and go to the main menu (loading the USO menu seems to load the picture). This made the picture change to sephiroth. Then i used the character change code once more but this time in order to change the player back to cloud 3009CBDC 0000. Once sephiroths stats and things have changed to that of clouds i simply disabled the code. Once that was done I enabled the Ultimate Sephiroth Code (unfortunately i am unsure of who wrote that code, but a big thanks to whoever did). With that code enabled cloud changed to sephiroth in battle and in the menu his picture changed to sephiroths.

Clouds picture will stay as sephiroths until the next event in the game. Then you can repeat the process to change back to sephiroths picture.

The codes which i am going to attempt now are going to change clouds and sephiroths materia at the same time.. No idea how to do it at all. But i'll dig around some difference searches and things to see wat i come up with.. That is the biggest problem in the game i believe. Making sephiroths and clouds materia the same. Because otherwise you will need to use the USO menu or character change code in order to change materia. I guess its not that bad but it would be a good thing if you were able to change clouds and sephiroths materia at the same time.

By the way these are the armor codes which i wrote for sephiroth. The reason there is individual codes for each armor is so that you could change between them and still hold the same name (Black Cape) also i chose to use the 'precious watch' as a base armor as it has memory for a description. Which i will add a description in soon.. If anyone has a suggestion on the description for sephiroth's black cape please have let me know

Take note that these armor codes are still in testing and not yet ready

The Ultimate Sephiroth Code was created by ZoMBiE343. As for the rest...I have to get to work, and don't have time to look into it at the moment.
                        I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

well a big thanx to ZoMBiE343. If i am able to use his addition with the Ultimate sephiroth code. I think it is definately possible to have a sephiroth playthrough which feels as if you are really sephiroth. From personalised equipment to having him fight in battles without worrying about the problem of the game freezing from sephiroth being an active party member..

and again a big thankyou to everyone for the great codes that have been made for this game, as your work is the basis of my lust to play through the game as the ultimate antagonist. And many of the codes written by hackers have been the places from which i have learnt a great deal. As an amatuer it is a priveledge to have the help of many experienced coders. Thanks
