  • Artemis PS3 Question: Please Help

Hey everybody, to any moderators who see this, I am sorry if I didn't post this on the right thread. If this is wrong and you need to delete it, please just tell me where to go and I will.

I am really sorry to bother you all but I have literally tried everything I can think of with my extremely limited tech/hacking knowledge. So, after trying everything myself, I figured I would message and ask you guys.

I sent my Fat PS3 to a guy on PS3 Hax a few years back and he jailbroke it for me and installed CFW; it was way too advanced for me to do so myself.

I'm not very savvy with the names and terms of all this stuff but he installed WebMan on it for me, which can convert back and forth to Multiman. I sent my system to him because I just wanted a way to use Artemis cheat codes on my game and I heard jailbreaking and CFW/Hen was the only way to do it. Artemis wouldn't work on a regular PS3 running standard factory firmware.

Long story short, I finally got around to playing again recently and tried out my PS3. Everything works fine mind but he didn't install Artemis on it so I had to do it myself. It was hard and it took me a long time but I finally managed to download the latest 2020 version of Artemis from Brewology and followed a YouTube video, step by step, to get it on my PS3.

It worked fine and I have it running smoothly. The cheats and everything are there, all the ones I want for every game I have. Specifically, the first game I wanted to try them out for was Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction.

My problem is this. Once I activated the cheats I wanted, I started my game. Mind you, I am actually playing straight from the XMB game disk itself, not an IOS or PKG file. I read online that Artemis was actually made FOR the discs anyway so that's why I tried it that way.

I also read that Artemis won't work with WebMan/Multiman so that's why I'm not mounting the game from them and am instead doing it right from the XMB game disc itself.

So, the game loads up fine and doesn't freeze. I get all the way to the Load Game screen and manage to actually get to the gameplay itself, still working fine. But once I press the PS button, hold Start and attach the Artemis file, I return to the game screen and almost immediately, the entire thing freezes up. So I have to turn off the whole PS3 and turn it on again.

I have tried again and again and again but no matter what I try, it still freezes on me. I tried the normal codes, as well as the AoB ones but nothing is working. And yes, I am playing the right version of the game for the codes, I checked.

I am really sorry to bother you guys, again, but can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Because I've tried desperately to figure this out for myself but I keep coming up dead in the water. And since I am not tech/hacking inclined, this thing has been majorly kicking my butt. I only sent my PS3 to get jailbroken JUST so I could use Artemis cheat codes for my games.

Any help would be vastly appreciated.

Personally, I don't like artemis and so I don't use it (it doesn't always play nice with other software running on the ps3, scrolling through it is painful etc.). I use netcheatps3 instead (which you run from your computer and send codes to the ps3 from), but you want the version with ps3mapi hosted here https://netcheat.gamehacking.org/ncU...cUpdateDir.zip. PS3MAPI, the "protocol" that allows talking from the computer to the ps3, is installed by default when you install webman-mod - but you should install the latest version of webman-mod on your ps3 from github for good measure.

Any code can freeze the ps3 (potentially). The first thing I would do is make sure you have the right code. It is tricky on the PS3 because the version of the game, and ANY patches/dlcs/updates that were installed are important. If you have a different version of the game than the code creator did, then chances are the code will not work (it is still worth a try, but it is unlikely to work).

For example your game "Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction" has no less than 5 different versions (with 5 corresponding gameid's). The first thing you need to do is figure out which gameid is yours. Gameid's are always 4 letters followed by 5 numbers and sometimes have a hyphen between them.

    https://www.gametdb.com/PS3/Search?a...1=&case_color=

The above lists only 4 (which are disc/iso versions), and there may be more than 5. The fifth one missing from the list above is a PSN version with gameid NPUA80965.

After figuring out which gameid is yours, you need to know the specific version of the game you have. This changes each time you install an update/dlc/patch. Once you know your gameid you can look where it is installed (if applicable, for example if it is installed on the hdd it would be /dev_hdd0/game/*GAMEID*/ where *GAMEID* is replaced by your gameid) and read the param.sfo file you find there. When you install the game on the hdd or install any patches/updates/dlc's this folder is created automatically and will be on your hdd0. The param.sfo can be read with a few specialized programs, or just opened in a text editor or hex editor. At the end of the file the only intelligible human readable text will be the gameid, and the software version. FYI the param.sfo is found in every game (whether pkg/iso/disc etc.) and will contain the game id and the software version (you need both).

When you install new patches/dlc's/updates the software version changes (and will be found at the path I mentioned above on dev_hdd0), and occasionally (because it wasn't complicated or convoluted enough as it was) the disc/iso is just an install disc and does not have the same gameid as the game it installs, so watch out for that.

Once you have the gameid and the version, some examples are shown on this page (for the ps3 emulator rcps3) https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?tit...of_Destruction

So let's say you have BCUS98127, which is the US disc/iso version of the game, and you have software version 1.00. Now you need to find the codes for THAT specific version of the game.

I just looked inside the latest artemis pkg and there are ONLY codes available for the 4 disc types found at the gametdb.com above, and ONLY for version 1.00. If you installed updates/patches/dlc's then the codes found in those files will likely no longer work. You could delete the game folder on dev_hdd0 (or uninstall the game from the XMB) and run the game again to "revert" to 1.00.

The code files that netcheat uses are inside the artemis.pkg you get from github, and when artemis is installed you can find them at /dev_hdd0/game/ARTPS3001/USRDIR/USERLIST (or you can extract them from the pkg itself (without installing the pkg on the ps3) using ps3p_pkg_ripper.

This is all pretty heinously complicated, so let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!
