Advice needed for creating AR codes for the Gamecube

Hey everyone,

Alright! This has been a lot of fun so far. I've got my feet wet with some Saturn games and have been enjoying all of this. My other goal though was to work on some Gamecube games. I have an Action Replay Max and all that goodness. From what I understand though, the codes are encrypted. There are converters, of course, but I have some related questions for anyone that might be able to help. I did look around a bit, but couldn't find related information. So please forgive me if this was already covered somewhere.

My main question is about master codes and game ids.

So, I want to make some codes for a game that doesn't have any existing codes. I don't know how to find out what the Game ID is, and I'm also not sure how to handle the master codes. I noticed in some of the code listings that the master code changed from game to game. That concerns me. In my limited experience up to this point, it seemed like the master codes were pretty universal, except for a a few exceptions.

So those are the two areas I could use some advice on. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

The Game ID is just a sequence that Datel assigns. There's nothing intrinsic to that game about it, so if there are official codes, you can decrypt one and use that Game ID for consistency. If there are no official codes, the best you can do is look around to see if the community has one by consensus and use it. Otherwise, it's fair game. Pick a high number that nobody is likely to have used and run with it.

Master codes just hook into some frequently executed part of the game, such as gamepad routines or part of the graphical subsystem. I don't know what the preferred method is for GameCube, but there's surely a tutorial around somewhere. If you have a disassembler that does library identification, or even if it won't, you could always analyze the existing M codes from a couple of games you own.

Thanks. That gives some useful insight. I'm not sure if I have it in me to sort out a master code, but I'll certainly give it a go. Maybe I need to search up about master codes in general.

I thought maybe the game ID was tied to some real indicator. Since it's not though, that's useful. That helps a lot!

Yeah, I've come across list like that, but it's not complete. Ikaruga for Japan for example. There is a game ID for the UK one and the US one, but not the Japanese one.
