Awesome code for original Gauntlet NES (need help)

k so i am an amateur. i am ok with that because i know enough to find the codes i want myself such as jumping high, infinite health or money etc... i use cheat engine for searching because well most emulators cheat support sucks lol. i came across a really cool address for gauntlet tonight. i spent about 4 hours trying to search an adress for the "stats" of a player and came across many cosmetic only cheats that just change the attack etc in the menu. well to not drag it on i randomly decided to click an adress amidst the hundreds of addresses displayed and see what it did and to my suprise i had hit the nail on the head.... well sort of haha. it is a code that allows you to change your character mid game without restarting the entire game and stay on the same level you are on. it will go to the pause screen like you leveled up and change your health to the appropriate amount. then when you unpause it you are playing as archer instead of warrior etc. well i noticed that values 00-03 are the normal characters you can choose from. and the part where i succeeded in the "stat hack" is that the values 04-07 are the same playable characters warrior elf wizard so on but with a different color weapon and increases stats. such as the warrior runs almost as fast as the original elf. the elf has almost the same strength as the warrior so on so forth. this has been really fun playing with a warrior that isnt slow as sin or a super hyper active speedy elf that can zip through a bonus map in 10 seconds haha. anyways i need help because i have no idea how to turn the code into an AR or GG code... and currently i am just using cheat engine to run the hack. i can post it here if someone is willing to help me and i would even give them partial credit to the code for helping me as well. this is the first time i have found an interesting hack that was worth posting on any website haha. most of my hacks in roms dont usually work as well as i would like or are just run of the mil inf coins inf lives type deal. so if anyone is interested in helping me this is a really fun code for playing the game just let me know and i will post it here.

CE to AR

00A6 is the address that holds which character you're playing as.
The default values would be:
00 Warrior
01 Female
02 Wizard
03 Archer

Anytime you want to convert a Cheat Engine to a normal Action Replay address, just use the emulator's default cheat searcher.
You have full control of the value if it's in Cheat Engine's code list, so use that to your advantage.

For example:
Use CE to set the value to 03.
Open the emulator's cheat searcher and search for 03.
Use CE to change the value to 02.
Now use the emulator to search for 02.
It will usually only take two scans to locate the correct address.

oh awesome thanks so much. i could not figue it out for the life of me seeing how the address in cheat engine is much longer then what the emulator allows. but anyways here is the cheat engine address along with values. i ran this on virtua NES havent tested it on nestopia yet. the address is under Byte 0059E456XX and the values are as follows Warrior-00 Valkyrie-01 wizard-02 elf-03 when you change mid game the pause screen will come up and it may or may not change your health to reflect the character i have started as warrior and kept the warriors health as well as it dropping too so that part is kind of random. the next values are the same characters but with twice the stats it seems like Warrior upgraded stats and blue axe-04 Valkyrie with upgraded stats and blue sword-05 Wizard with upgraded stats and blue fireball-06 Elf with upgraded stats and blue arrows-07 now the upgraded warrior and elf are my favorite because the warrior isnt slow as sin any more and the elf does more damage. the elf is also faster than normal too hes like hyper caffeinated and on bonus rounds you will have plenty of time left after getting all the gold haha hope you guys have as much fun as i did. if you can manage to convert this to game genie or PAR codes to work on emulators i wont mind you throwing your name in there with mine. but i cant figure it out seeing how the address is twice as long. oh well i will end up just using it from cheat engine. have fun with it guys i had a blast last night when i found it

I've already converted the cheat to PAR for you (2nd post in this thread) and also wrote how to do this yourself in the future.

oh and sorry for being such a noob on here guys lol. i literally dont usually hack stuff that much anymore so i kinda just know the basics now a days. so much has changed since 15 years ago when i was on graal online and was hacking custom weapons into the game and passing them around. breaking out of ban rooms. but that was simple script type programming for that game back then. i also had more time to pay attention to what i was doing and learn it properly lol where as i havent been doing things liek that since then and now im such a noob haha.

ok i just searched and found the code for P2 character modification. it is 00A7:XX it uses the same values as P1 for characters 00-07. and no i didnt just change the number to be lazy i actually searched it because i wanted to see if i could do it myself :P as you can see i was able to do it pretty easily thanks to your help. also do i just post new codes i find here in the forums or is there a way i can submit them myself.

If you're planning to stick around for a while and make codes, you can ask to be added to the hacker group to have the ability to add and modify your own codes to the database. Otherwise you post them in the forums for a mod, admin, or chronicler to add them.

yeah i think its about time i start getting back into this. i remember having lots of fun searching for codes when i was younger, im going to wait til i find some more codes that are not on any lists yet before i consider becoming part of the hacker group. im still rusty :P
