  • VisualBoy Advance - Codes Not Working

Hey there. I think I've discovered a bug in VisualBoy Advance.
I have been hacking GameBoy games for quite some time now, but there are some games (quite a few) where I enter the GameShark code and they don't work. I've even tried to go to the memory viewer and change the value but it just ends up changing back. I made sure the cheats were enabled and that I made a save state after adding the codes. When I go back to the 'Search for Cheats' section, the codes are still changing as if I never added a code. For example, I was trying to get infinite health for player 1 in Hiryu no Ken Gaiden (018078C2 or 0180DBC4) but after that my health still keeps going down when I get hit and I end up losing. Does anybody know if I am doing something wrong? I wouldn't be surprised since I just got into this but as far as I know, I don't think I've missed anything. This has been an issue that has been making me tear out my hair! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

VBA's cheat engine is very outdated.

Surely there must be a way to get the codes to work? I thought about converting them to GameGenie, but I tried using the tool and it's very perplexing to me.

They work, just not in VBA.

Is there another GameBoy emulator you would recommend for cheats?

For making cheats? Hackers seem to like BGB and No$GBA.

Hey guys. I finally found out why the cheats weren't working, thanks to Mezmorize! Just replace the "C" with a "D" and it will work! For example, in Pocket Golf, the score modifier shows as 0101BCC4, but if you change it to 0101BCD4 it will work. Thanks Mezmorize!

                Hmm... strange.
Is there any reason for that? Is it always the same way, change C to D, or can it be change A to B?

I've noticed that Cxxx RAM addresses can actually be Dxxx, and Fxxx can be Dxxx instead.
Also if the RAM address is actually in the Fxxx area it will show no results.
That's with the version 1.8.0 beta 3 at least.

Still, I recommend the emulator BGB for Game Boy/Color hacking.
