  • Side Pocket Genesis Codes - Not Working Codes

    Hello there.
I am trying to play through the Genesis version of Side Pocket for the Genesis. I'm on one of the "Let's Challenge" stages and I can't beat the level. I've tried almost everything and it's driving me insane. I found two codes that don't seem to be working for me. I'm using the USA ROM just like the site says.
The two codes that aren't working for me are "You Will Always Go To The Next Level", as the game sends me back to previous stages whenever I can't beat this one level. The other code is "Master Code". I turned it on and it didn't seem to affect anything in the game, as the game runs normally as if it weren't even turned on.
As a last resort, I tried watching a video on YouTube about the level and I still couldn't beat it. I think it's the Let's Challenge stage in New York if I remember right.
I'd honestly appreciate any help. I'm not all that good with hacking Genesis games, so I'm hoping someone with more expertise than I could give me a hand.
    Thank you.

I made both of those codes. I just checked, and the master code works perfectly. If you're using an emulator and you enter one of the Game Genie codes and then reset the game, you may get a blank/red screen. The purpose of the master code is to get rid of the blank/red screen.

The "You Will Always Go To The Next Level" code also works, but I should probably make the code note a little clearer. It says "even if you don't score enough points". I noticed that you will not go to the next level if you use up all your shots. Will update the code note shortly.

I'll look at the game later and see if I can figure out a code for the "Let's Challenge" stages.

    EDIT:
Already changed the code description and code notes.

Hey, Tony. Thanks a lot for the response. I thought the Master Code would go to some kind of debug menu or something where you could select your level. If you come across the Let's Challenge stage codes, I'd really appreciate it. This one level's driving me insane!

Also, I have codes for other games, and I'm wondering how I should post them, in one topic, or a separate one for each game? Thanks again!

Doommaster, where are the "Let's Challenge" stages? Does it actually say "Let's Challenge", or is that what you're calling it?

Making new codes as I go along...

Cool! I'll try that code out.

In the NES game, the game actually calls it "Let's Challenge!" but in the Genesis version, it happens after a normal round and you'll hear a voice say it. You only get one shot to knock the balls in and can only knock them in one hole, and from the position of the balls, I can't get a right shot. I tried the Balls Always Move code but that just causes them to go in the wrong pockets.

If you could find a way to turn of the pockets that say "NO" over them, I could probably use the Balls Always Move code.

I tried 2 of the "Let's Challenge!" stages and even if I miss the shot, I still go to the next level (without using any codes). I didn't hear a voice say "Let's Challenge!", but they are a single shot stage, with 5 of the pockets saying "No". Sounds exactly the same as what you described. Since it always lets me go to the next level even if I miss the shot, there's no way for me to make a code to "always go to the next level".

EDIT: I just noticed that if you make that single shot, it adds a few extra/bonus shots to your total number of shots you have left.

EDIT 2: It's possible that later levels won't allow you to proceed if you miss the shot. If that's the case, then I'll need a save state that's compatible with Gens.

Thanks again for the reply, Tony!
Yes, I think maybe the later levels do it, because everytime I can't do the level, it sends me back into an endless loop. I use Fusion. I wish there was one like the NES emulator FCEUX or SNES9K where you can view all the addresses. If GENS is like that, I'll try that one out.

If I remember correctly, Fusion save states will work with Gens. If you have a save state, send it.

There are a few Genesis emulators that are similar to FCEUX where you can view all the addresses. They're in the D/L section (Gens Hacking, Gens Tracer, and ReGen D).

These are the only filetypes allowed to be uploaded as attachments. I suggest compressing it in zip, gzip, 7z etc.

Okay, I was able to beat the game, but not without your help! There was something wrong with the "Always Go To Next Stage" code in the last part of the game. It told me I only had I think 1900 points out of 7000 and it wouldn't let me advance. However, I turned on the Zone mode code which easily gave me over 7000 points. Again, thanks for your help. I honestly appreciate it!

Doommaster, I think I know what you're talking about with the Let's Challenge stages. To go from stage 1 to stage 2 you don't have to make the shot, but to go from stage 2 to stage 3 & so on, you have to make the challenge shots even if you score enough points. That drove me up a wall too. I've always wanted it to where that they would just completely skip over the "Let's Challenge" shot.

I decided to get the game that came out in 1995, Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend. The game is played the exact same way, except you face opponents instead of having to earn points with limited shots. When playing Story Mode, you don't have to clear challenge shot to go from one stage to the next.
Hacking games is always fun because you don't know what's hidden in the game.

Now that I know a little more about the game, I'll see if I can make some more codes to make it easier to get thru the stages. I came up with some ideas while at work today. Guess I should have been concentrating on work, but I think we all know how that goes. :-)
