  • NHL '94 (SNES)

I joined here after seeing video of Nolberto's Game Genie coding hack of NHL '94 (SNES) that did a silly and useless thing. there is a very active forum at http://nhl94.com in which folks have figured out a fair amount of useful stuff to alter for changing and improving the game, but the Genesis version is more popular and easier to work with. we could use some expert (or advanced) hackers on the SNES side, as there is plenty still to be deciphered and figured out. the Genesis version has player and puck physics hacks, a ROM with additional teams (30 instead of 28), redrawn goalie crease (most of the SNES graphics are compressed), redrawn title screens, updated player cards and lots more. the SNES side has a few interested users who are novice hackers valiantly trying to do what is within their grasps, but not succeeding in quite the same fashion as the other side. the Genesis hackers have almost made the game playable with push button goalie control (you used to have to hold and wait!), weight fail reversal (light guys used to check better!) and all of those fancy features previously mentioned. it still isn't as good as the SNES version, but we really could use some assistance in staying ahead of the proverbial curve. if you think you can help, please join us. I'd love to be able to add MIN and CBJ to my ROMs, change the center-ice logos, import new player faces for the player cards and have fourth lines available at all line changes. if you'd like to see where we are, so far, check out my current-roster hack that also has lots of other simpler changes affected. thanks for your time. be well and stay smiling.

I remember a few years ago, wboy (maker of NOSE) asked for some help finding some ROM offsets for the Genesis version of NHL 94. Found some of the puck/gravity/physics stuff, energy bar timers, etc. wboy and I had a great time ripping that ROM apart. There are LOTS of very dedicated people in the NHL94 forums.

The one thing that everybody in that forum wanted (which was too advanced for me to figure out), was to put fighting in NHL 94.

Anyways, I would love to help out with the SNES version, but I've always had trouble getting my SNES debugger working correctly, which limits what I can find in the ROM.

EDIT: just noticed that none of my NHL 94 (Genesis) Game Genie codes are in the data base here. Will add them when I get a chance: http://codehut.gshi.org/GenMultiGGo.txt

if you really would be willing to help, get a new debugger and come back to the forums! what is your name over there? physics hacks should be easy enough for those with debugging skills. anybody else want to play the hero?

I used the name Tony H, though I haven't posted there in a long time. There is one of my posts pinned in the "GENS: Editing How-To, Tutorials & Reference" section from 2007: http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/to...acking-school/

well, you should come back to the site, buddy! at least drop in to say "hi."

if this thread should be in the category below the one it is in (I see now that it says "ROM" in the title), moderators may feel free to move it.

still seeking advanced hackers. good with tracing code? we could use your help!

@trudatman... I've always been a fan of (SNES) NHL '94. I visited that site you recommended, http://nhl94.com . I was looking to download a ROM hack / patch that has the most updated rosters for (SNES) NHL '94. I looked in the Downloads section and I found the Genesis version but I can't seem to find the SNES version that has the updated rosters.

What does this link have to do with the game or your roster hack? This link is all religious and biblical passages. There is no game related information in that link.

Thanks for sharing and the update. Just a small question/suggestion... Could you release a duplicate but with one slight difference, have the Player Indicator enabled. It's too frustrating not always knowing what player I'm controlling.

it just got an update with a lot of important changes. the shadows under the controlled players are larger, but the first player is still tough to see, so if you dislike the subtlety, activate the multitap option and use player five. anyway, anybody that cares at all is invited to download the newest file.

aside from critiques, criticisms, comments and corrections, I'm hoping to get help with:
                              -expansion of roster space
                              -expansion to 30 teams
-getting goalies freed to roam further
-addition of one space between initial and name in game stars popup, statistics lists
                              -removal of logos and copyrights
-having a flashing popup after goals and in last two minutes instead of the constant scoreboard overlay
-adding more selectable options when changing lines
-having a time clock with real speed instead of the fast ticking

if you can help me make this thing better, please volunteer your services. if this ROM can help you develop your skills/projects, please use it in any way that you see fit, short of pulling a profit. for those interested, http://nhl94.com is a place where there is a lot of data on making alterations to NHL '94. most of the work has been made to hack the vastly inferior but much more popular Genesis version, so there is plenty left to do for the SNES side. if you are at all inclined to assist, please do!
