  • Request: SNES JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings

I've been playing this for a week and even with an invincibility code, maps and a FAQ this game is a pain in the ass. The mazes in this game are huge and you can get lost really easily. Anyway, I finally made it to the Balrog, the final boss. I proceed to hammer on him with my party of 8 (Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Gandolf and the 4 hobbits) and after 10 minutes he isn't dying. I keep hammering on him, speeding up the game using ZSNES, and after 5 minutes of this have come to the realization that the code that makes me invincible also makes him invincible.

I've seen multiple Invincibility codes for games and am wondering if it is possible to make a code that will just keep my characters from harm but let the Balrog be vulnerable. The codes I am using is:

Game Genie: 82A2-CF6D (which is the same thing as the PAR code 80C2D6BD).

I also have a ZSNES save state for the actual battle, if this is needed.

    Thanks,
    AdamL

OK, I was just looking at some youtube videos and apparently you CANNOT harm the Balrog if Gandalf is in your party. I have no way to get rid of him and the only 2 save states I have are after picking him up in the room before Balrog. I wonder if a code can be made to be able to damage the Balrog even if Gandalf is in your party? I guess since he "dies" fighting the Balrog in the book, they wanted to keep the game somewhat similar to the book.

So yeah, my request is to make the Balrog be able to take damage even if Gandalf is in your party.

Too bad this game sucks the biggest balls lol. I have bad memories of this piece of turd when I rented it for the snes many a moon ago.Could you perhaps get a save state to where you can add a new party member? this way we could possibly make a party modifier and take him out of the party.

Heh, I felt the same way about this game for years Helder. I actually spent money on this turd years ago but couldn't get anywhere. It was cool after all these years to finally play through and reach the Balrog. Too bad the FAQ on Gamefaqs didn't mention that the only way you can beat him is without having Gandalf in your party, who you pick up in the room right before him.

Anyway, I finally figured out how to control your other team members and turned off the invincibility code to let Gandalf die. I then beat the game with the rest of my party members still alive and beat it again with only Frodo and Aragorn surviving...and got the same ending for each scenario. So much for the urban myth that there are multiple endings in this game. The "Bad ending" is just dying against the Balrog and having to restart just from the room right before him. There was also a video on youtube where the player did not add Gandalf to his party, went ahead and beat the Balrog, then went back and got Gandalf to join up. The same ending played that I got in the 2 scenarios mentioned above, including the same text saying how sad it was that Gandalf died...even though he was traipsing along with the rest of the group.

So I guess there is no need to make the code for this game, except for novelty sake.
