  • An ending for Mega Man's Soccer!?

Ladies and gentlemen, I found the ending to Mega Man's Soccer! Use this code, and follow the instructions...

Mega Man's Soccer (also works for Rockman's Soccer, the Japanese version for this game)
    View Ending
    81829BEE
    81829CE0
Start the game. First, select Capcom Tournament, then select either one vs. CPU and select Start. Now sit back and relax. You will get the ending instead of the opening.

DUDE!!!!!!!! Don't kid around with this! I spent months researching on how to get this ending, even the late Ugetab, who found the ending to Wily & Light Rockboard couldn't find a code for this!

    *Edit*

It works! It really works! It's aliveeee!

Man, so glad this mystery is over. Too bad no one cares about this game.

Were you the one who found this code? How did you find it when the master ugetab couldn't?
I'm going to post the ending on youtube.

    *Edit 2*

KFF, when I was researching about this issue, I found the credits inside the rom, however, your codes shows the ending but not a credits sequence. Is it possible that there's another missing ending? Maybe another game mode gave you the credits? Can you look into that and see if you can find a code to display the credits too?

The video is already on YouTube. I posted it myself. I also did Corn Buster, which was also hacked, and posted that ending on my YouTube account.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to let you know that there was absolutely no debugger required whatsoever. I was the original finder of this code... I don't know anyone else that did the same code.

      Here's my little method:

First, I invented a music modifier, of all the irony. The reason is because there are two pieces of music that were marked as the ending in the SPC sets. The music modifier I invented is this code...

      808BA8A9
      808BA9xx
      808BAA00
The range is 01-1A, 1C. 00 and 1B are silent. The game crashes after 1C.

Now I backtrack from there. I went to the start of the routine and found references for where the routine started as 20 A5 8B. Typically I just search for 6B, 60, or a jump command to determine the most likely start, though I have been stumped before (if that happens, all I have to do is search for a routine call to the local area). More rarely, a branch command is also used to mark the start of a routine for me to search.

I determined the routine to search for was 22 1C BF 00. I found two references for this routine that sealed the deal with values right behind it: tune ID 1A, the tune played during the opening (A9 1A 00 22 1C BF 00), and tune ID 18, which is apparently the ending tune (A9 18 00 22 1C BF 00). So I checked for where the opening was triggered. 20 10 D6 was where the opening routine was stored. I decided to turn those three into EA to truly confirm it (usually I like to cause catastrophe in the game). It skipped right over the cutscene into the next menu. So I went from there and determined the ending routine was from EE E0. So I completely replaced 20 10 D6 with 20 EE E0, and bam, I got the ending (there is a reference to the ending via 22 ). However, the ending has no staff roll (I figured it was a classic Capcom thing to ditch the staff roll in some of the SNES games, though in this case it was in the ROM text), and the Japanese version did the same thing.

By the way, I also found a bonus Protoman cutscene. This was right next to the reference to the ending, and I have absolutely no idea where this is played in-game (yet).

      Mega Man's Soccer
      View Protoman Cutscene
      81829BCF
      81829CDA
Start the game. First, select Capcom Tournament, then select either one vs. CPU and select Start. Now sit back and relax. You'll get booted back to the Title Screen after this scene.

I'm missing a key here. There are three references to A9 18 00 22 1C BF 00. I have no idea how to trigger the other two...

I have absolutely no idea how to get the staff roll. The text is not where the ending is located, though according to JLukas, the text printing does exist for the credits roll. I have determined that most of the cutscenes has, to start things off, E2 20 A9 xx 48 AB C2 30. xx is 80, 81, or 82, mostly depending on the bank (in my case, I failed on all hits for that with xx = 80). Here's all of them that I could get using this code (it is a different code, now used for the Capcom Logo):

      8089FDxx
      8089FExx
      8089FFxx

The cutscenes all require "safe-cracking"... that is, the code itself is a direct pointer to the cutscene.

      B9 9E 81 - Member Select
      37 A7 81 - Formation Selection
      ED A8 81 - Field Select
      89 AD 81 - Position Select
20 BB 81 - Supposed to be the Password, but the tune only barely plays before it switches to the default scene, the Title Screen.
      E8 C0 81 - League
      E2 C8 81 - Opponent Introduction
      10 D6 81 - Opening
CF DA 81 - Protoman (plays over and over again)
      A5 DB 81 - Cast Roll
      15 E0 81 - Presented by Capcom
      7F E3 81 - A random Main Menu. No idea. It's completely blank.
      EE E0 81 - Ending
      00 80 82 - Capcom Logo
      2D 80 82 - In-Game
      9E 84 82 - In-Game (again)
      45 A0 82 - P.K.
EC A7 82 - Animation Test, of all the irony!
      4C D1 82 - Game Over

Some invalid values boot you to the Title Screen. Some of the values are not supposed to be used this early.

No staff roll cutscene yet... if it's even possible to find it.

P.S.: I attempted to use the same method to find Blazeon's ending using a (possibly unused) tune ID as my reference. Couldn't even find a reference for it in the ROM! Thus, I can't even determine if the ending was coded in, so for that case, I'll say no.

Was seeking the ending to Mega Man Soccer so sought after because it wasn't possible to just beat the game? If you played through the game, using no cheat codes or using cheat codes or using save states, would you beable to see the ending to the game? Or is something about the game that makes it very hard to see the ending by playing through it? I'm just curious to why this game's ending is so sought after?

Just based on getting booted back to the title screen a few times while trying some other attempts, I think the coders failed. Big time. I did beat the game and got booted back to the Title Screen, and I have no idea what conditions need to be met. There is a reference for the ending sequence in the ROM, but in this case, that's a job for someone with a debugger to see what went wrong.

So is there something like a glitch in the game in which when you beat the game, instead of seeing the ending sequence & credits, you get taken back to the Title Screen?

Maybe there is a "good" and "bad" ending to this game. The "bad" ending is when you get booted back to the Title Screen and the "good" ending is when you get to see the ending sequence & credits.

I actually have no idea. The staff roll is not where the ending code is located in the ROM. As a matter of fact, it's near the string "PASSWORD!ERROR".

OldSchoolGamer, the game was coded horribly. I made a forum post about how horrible Capcom's coders were since a lot of their games (Arcade and SNES) had cut out text.

In the case of Megaman Soccer, when you beat the last team, the game abruptly sends you back to the title screen. No congratulations, no game over, no nothing. Anyone that has played a lot of games knows this is absolutely not usual and it was made even clearer that the game was bugged when music dumpers noticed the game had 2 ending music tracks and then I found the staff credits in the ROM by using a hex editor.
Thankfully, KFF finally solved the mystery.

I didn't know you already made a video KFF. I made one of my own too, I hope it's not a problem.

As for the staff roll, maybe you can see the staff names by inputting a special password?

No problem. I posted my original ending video as a response. Plus, you made the bonus cutscene video. I left that in there as a bonus.

I have no idea on the password, honestly...

                    Mega Man's Soccer (SNES)

                    Pro Action Replay
82ABB000 View staff roll on password screen

                    Game Genie
DDC8-3DDC View staff roll on password screen

The staff roll is checked for and activated when the password screen opens. It should be possible to access it normally in the game, without game enhancer codes. The requirements are currently unknown, but it seems to involve something that happens during or after a match, possibly the number of goals scored. It doesn't appear to be a special password or button cheat.

What the hell? What's with the recent awesome hackers making my life happier by finding out stuff like this?

JLukas, you are awesome. I don't think the credits are found by something that happens during or after a match like you said. It's probably just a special password that one has to enter or maybe even a button code.

It's not super informative and since then I've found other Capcom games with glitchy text. Usually during the ending.

After more research, the instructions for the secret staff roll has been found. Note that it requires Dr. Wily, which means that a game enhancer is required no matter what.
