  • GG Codes for Goonies II, The (U) - NES

edit: All of these codes seem to be working perfectly in FCEUX and Nestopia. If using FCEUX, add the codes but don't toggle them, since the cheat search tends to remove the compare values for 8-digit codes after toggling.

    Hey,

I don't know if all of you have played this game, but it's one of the few movie-based titles that was actually good. It's similar to Metroid or Simon's Quest, which places it in the top five favorite NES games for me. If you play this one, try not to use a walkthrough or cheat that gives you most items at the beginning. Once you know where everything is found, it's around a 2-hour adventure.
    Code:
    Walk Through Walls
    AOSAYVOG
    APSAZYEY
    SZNAANSE

Go Down Ladders Anywhere (except water)
    ALUEVPEY
[B]NOTE: To disembark from invisible ladders easily, press up. Don't wander into watery areas, as your character will become glitched. Go into water the usual way (water holes in rooms).[/B]

Go Up Ladders Anywhere When Inside Walls (except water)
    IKVENEOG
[B]NOTE: Use with the Walk Through Walls cheat. To get off the ladder easily, press the D-pad left+down or right+down.[/B]

    Never Lose Your Boomerang
    AOKULLEI
    APOLGLEI

    Maximum Boomerang Range
    SLXOTEVS
I'd love to convert these to 8-character Game Genie codes, but this is one of those games that doesn't take well to that sort of treatment. edit: Fixed. Always use compare values from the debugger or trace logs, not from the hex editor

    Code:
    Walk Through Walls
    PXSAYTAP
    AAVETYNA
    SZSELYSV
that should be your 8 digit codes.

Aye, they should be, but they aren't. Not with FCEUX, nor with VirtuaNES. I know about taking a compare value into account, but I'm tellin' ya, this game is resistant. There are more problems (probably related somehow), so I'm going to scratch all of these until I see them working in the two most compatible emulators I have.

FCEUX seems to be the best for making codes. I like Nestopia the best just for playing games. I haven't found a game yet that Nestopia can't run. Most good NES emulators can play practically any game.

From what I read, most people have rated the NES emulator as:

        1. FCEUX
        2. Nestopia
        3. Jnes
        4. VirtuaNES

Now broadcasting from the underground command post. Deep in the bowels of a hidden bunker. Somewhere under the brick & steel of a nondescript building. We've once again made contact w/ our leader, OSG

I believe he wants an emulator that has good cheat compatibility.

OK, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was looking at the hex editor for my compare values, not the trace logs. The updated codes should be ready soon

Yeah, it's definitely great for cheats, and it's one of the best all-around emulators too. Except... when you toggle an 8-digit GG code, it seems to change it back to its 6-digit self. The cheat search is buggy in other ways, and likes to crash every once in a while

Good call, thanks a lot! VirtuaNES, while looking good, has very poor cheat support. Nestopia plays all of the codes perfectly.

Nestopia seems to be working as well as FCEUX.
