  • GG Codes for Super Mario Bros. - NES

I know that there have been thousands of codes made for this game already. After seeing some of the one made on Youtube, I felt like I had to get a copy & get it out of my system. So anyway, here's what I found:

    Goombas are flattened
    KIZGYX
NOTE: They can still hurt you.

    Firey Mario can't shoot fireballs
    POZLYT

Pipes only show the top portion
    IILPEP
NOTE: You can walk through where the pipe is.

Scrambles stages slightly / Start with extra time
    VVZPAS
NOTE: Best used with a high jump code.

    Screen is slow to scroll
    SULXEN
NOTE: The screen won't always move when your character does. Sometimes you'll be at the far right edge before it moves. Other times, you'll be making a big jump & the screen will stop scrolling, which will cause you to fall.

    Coins & boxes don't flash
    EYPEOX

    Killing enemies scrambles the stage
    LLAEPI
NOTE: This one is by far very unusual. It doesn't directly affect the stage, but when you kill an enemy it will. When you squash an enemy when its paired with another, it will fly around the screen real fast & land some where else. Most of the time it'll land off screen, but there are times where they land just above you or on you. If you are at a part where you're stuck or it just keeps repeating, don't worry. Just die & then when you start your next life, everything will be back to normal until you kill another enemy.

I've been noticing other Youtube 6-digit codes that haven't followed the rules. Some of the codes I found didn't have A, P, Z, L, G, I, T, or Y as the 3rd digit. However after testing them out of curiosity, I noticed that some do work. I put in a random code that doesn't follow that rule & it works

Sky blue sky & everything else is hot pink (makes the game look very 80's)
    POKEPS

SMB has got to be one of the best games for entering random codes. I made hundreds of them.

I know. When I first got the Retron 3, I went to the flea market & someone tried selling me SMB1. I turned him down saying that I had SMAS for SNES. I started looking for different codes on Youtube & started seeing some of the coolest codes made. I made sure I ordered a copy.

There's something else I think I may have stumbled on too. When I was punching in random things, one of the codes I found made the game freeze, but when it froze, the ground looked very different & there clouds in the sky had a smile with eyes. I was looking at the NES version of the Lost Levels (Japanese SMB2) & noticed that it the ground & clouds looked just like that. The problem is its one of many codes that I tried for SMB1 & I would have to go back & retest them again to find it. Which I will do. When I find it, I'll put it on this page to show. Fortunately, I keep them all written down so I can refer back to them if I need to.

        Coins sound different when collected
        VZLYTS

        Another strange world code
        EXPOLS
NOTE: This causes random changes to a stage from 1 life to the next.
