  • PSX memory dumping

I found out how to dump the whole psx memory in realtime with psxfin aka pSX v1.13

    Debug, Monitor, r3000
    Window, New, Memory
    File, Save Binary

    Address: 0
    Size: 2097152

    Ok.

Open dumped files in ps2dis and let the real hacking begin

For those that use the Xebra/Arbex emulators, you can dump the memory by doing the following:

Any time during emulation, press F6 to pause emulation (not necessary, but helps if you want to make dumps without anything else happening during game play) and F5 to resume. Then, go to File -> Export -> Main Memory Image... and browse to where you want the file saved. Add the ".pis" extension (without quotes) to the end of the file's name. It's an extension associated with PS2DIS when you save your changes to the executable (SLUS, SLES, etc). A simple double-click will open the file. Click 'OK' when the "Load/Address from" window pops up. When you actually save your changes to the file (labeling, etc), just overwrite the current file.

Thanks, PCSX Reloaded has one too if you enable the interpreter core but for me i's not stable enough and hardly ever works, it's a shame because imo it's overtaken epsxe as the most compatible emulator with Xebra coming in a closs second, it's accuracy slows it down lol and it still doesn't work with loser's demo loader yet.

Oh, that's good to know. I think I gave PCSX Reloaded a try before just to test out its emulation of the PSX. Personally, I think Xebra is the most accurate PSX emulator to date (Arbex handles better in some cases and doesn't need a BIOS to work; a plus for me). Its emulation of the SPU and the ability to properly display the graphics of many games won me over (the Driver series, for example. No wobbly wheels among other things.). I just can't stand the use of plug-ins any more for PSX emulators (PEC and debugging a game are the only exceptions). Xebra/Arbex has a debug option, but it is not used to set breakpoints; a bunch of options related to the system itself. I don't recall hearing about that loader. What is it for?

Is there a good PSX emulator with built in debugger with breakpoints?

Similair to a demo loader on a demo disc but unofficial so you can run multiple homebrew on the same disc or multiple games, it runs in epsxe and pcsx-r but Xebra, PSXFIN and Bleem stall before displaying the menu. I have another demo loader that works with all of them but it only has space for five PSX.EXE's

Ah, OK. Sounds very handy. The other one you speak of sounds familiar to me. Is it the one with the space theme?

I use this one found on Romhacking.net. However, pSX has better emulation. So you might want to give that emulator a try, as well.

Not sure what you mean by space theme but the one I have is pink and has white text, it was used for a pirate cd called 5 in 1 Best 3D Action Games.

It's an animation of the galaxy (stars only) shooting by fast. The space theme I speak of can be seen in Pavlik's PSX Hacker Kit Beta 8, or use this guide to see and make a disc with it.

                  Code:
