  • Earthbound debug menu

ugetab maybe you'll have luck with this one..have you ever heard that earhtbound has a debug menu? the only problem is that you need to get to a curtain place and activate the code here: http://starmen.net/mother2/tips/Debug05.htm to bring it up..is there a way that you can make the menu come up whenever you want by pushing a buttion or using a item

    Earthbound debug menu

    Earthbound:
Talk to the air to get to the 'Apple' Debug Menu(Note that the debug menu isn't in english):
    3874-5409
    6D74-5469
    A974-5769

    I'm going to rant now.

Darkserge, be extremely redundant about checking what your interface is planning to do whenever you try to delete something big, especially when dealing with a publicly accessible area.

Forums fit into this category. Also, don't delete big things when you're tired, or don't feel motivated. This makes you succeptible to missing big warning signs about what you're about to do.

    Edit:
Labeled the debug menu, now that I know what it's label is.

I kindof deleted the forums thinking it was another forum(the debate zone forum), but deleted this forum instead. sorry about that

I read that part before. I'm just saying it probably made mention to the forum name when you were asked to confirm the forum deletion. I know few systems made so professionally as PHPBB that don't confirm the deletion of an item. PHPBB even confirms post deletions for users. I can't imagine they'd forego it for a whole forum deletion.

Wow, that was a quick request fill. Good code. I imagine the earthbound followers out there are gonna like that.

Nice code. Heh, being that it's a ROM image, somebody so inclined could actually translate (and if needed, debug) the debug menu.
*cough*Something similar happened before, involving a global prune. Problem was back then there weren't any backups.

Just in case some ambitious EB hacker reads this...

These codes modify the Text pointer loaded for the message recived when talking when nobody is there.

It's of little concern how I got the pointer to replace it with, but I did use the code on the above page, and then used the 'exit' button with the code on, so it would stop scrolling, and I took the position of the text from that point.

I went past the 'wait for button press' instruction in the text when I inserted it into the addresses. Make the decoded value of the first code EA instead of EB to regain this pause, if you'd like it for debugging purposes.

you do know there's a more defined debug menu that has a kirby sprite with it? I posted it here a few months ago http://forum.starmen.net/?t=msg&th=539&start=0#msg_7206 I made it so the meni would pop up right when you load a saved game..the problem was that the game would load up right at Tenda Village not where you saved in the debug mode...ugetab I wonder if its possible load a saved game or start a new game in debug mode without starting in Tenda Village aand having to go thru the fansy debug menu to get to it?

I don't see much point in making someone avoid the 'Debug menu' warp option, using what will most likely be quite a few codes more than a real GG would support.

Press the debug menu button, and choose 'Apple' to get to the debug menu my codes bring you to. There's a Goto Area and Goto Event menu. Goto Area should bring you into the viscinity of the area you want to be in.

I did look through the loading code for the initial debug mode, but it seems you're moved to the Tenda Village once you use a View X option.

I'm slightly interested in being able to load the upper-tier debug menu at will, so I'll look into that.

                  ---

Here's some codes for the alternate debug menu:

Talk to the air to get to the Higher-Tier Debug Menu(Choose 'Apple' to get to the same menu as the first debug menu code):
                  4474-54D9
                  1774-5409
                  4374-5469
                  AF74-54A9
                  3C74-57D9

I know this isn't what DarkSerge wanted, but the debug mode is simply accessible now. Whether you want the 3-code or 5-code menu which has in-game abilities, such as talking to people, or if you want the true debug mode, which forces you to use the Goto Area menu.

This sounds a lot like it's going to be a permanant hack of the game.

'Use' the Town Map to get to the Higher-Tier Debug Menu(Choose 'Apple' to get to the same menu as the first debug menu code. Note that you can still access the town map by pressing X with the town map in your inventory):
                      1782-ED05
                      4382-ED65
                      AF82-EDA5

'Use' the ATM Card to get to the 'Apple' debug menu:
                      386C-71F9
                      6D6C-7199
                      A96C-71B9

'Use' the Town Map to get to the Highest-Tier Debug Menu(Note that this will warp you to tenda village or reset the game, depending on the option you pick, and will make you unable to speak to people until you save and quit, then reload the save)
                      6B82-ED05
                      3182-ED65
                      3E82-EDA5

good job ugetab...now it would be nice if someone could make a translation patch of the earthbound debug menu..maybe we should post the code over on zophar's rom hacking board(or the starman boards) for somthing to see if someone could translate it?

You have my permission to give these codes out as you see fit. They weren't simple codes, but they weren't hard to make either.

A debug menu translation would definately make the codes more useful. Feel free to let them know they have my permission to include any of the codes in this topic with any ROM patches they may release, whether in GG/PAR format, or as part of the ROM patch itself.

I experienced no problem when attaining the items I mapped the Debug Menus to with the codes on.
