Need help finding a master code - For Sega Genesis
Need help finding a master code - For Sega Genesis
I just got Chavez 2 in the mail today & was trying to see if it needed a master code just like its English clone, Boxing Legends of the Ring. As it turns out it does. I was wanting to try to hack it. Can anyone find the master code for this game?

Hacking games is always fun because you don't know what's hidden in the game.
When you said that "I tried that too & the game works perfectly", were you talking about cleaning the cartridge with alcohol and Q-tips, or were you talking about using the Game Genie without any codes??? You need to give more information in your answers.
1) Did you try cleaning the cartridge and the Game Genie?
2) Did you try using the Game Genie without any codes? What happens?
3) Is the name on the cart "Chavez II"?
4) Is it a US game for the "Genesis"? (Most US carts will say "Genesis" on the sticker.)
One other thing I thought of... The codes you're entering may be causing the game to freeze. Try using this code: CTKA-AAA6. That's just a random test code. Let me know what happens with that code, as well as the 4 questions from above.
Also, did you try using the master code for Boxing Legends of the Ring?

1. Yes
2. Yes, I get a blank (or black) screen.
3. Yes
4. Yes, on the back of the cartridge it says, "Assembled in the U.S.A." & has "Genesis" on the label.
Also, I'll give that code a try. No I haven't used the Master Code for B.L.O.T.R. but I will try that one also. I'll let you know what happens.

After looking into this some more, it appears that the master code for B.L.O.T.R. should work on Chavez II.
Some weird shit going on with these 2 games. I can enter random GG codes on either game, and they run/play fine. I tried this on 2 different emulators (Gens and Fusion). Same results. This usually means that there is no checksum check used.
The fact that you are using the GG with no codes, and you still get a blank screen is odd. With no codes entered, the checksum isn't changed at all.
Maybe the Master Code that Galoob made for B.L.O.T.R. isn't for a checksum check? The instruction that Galoob's Master Code is NOPing is one I've never seen before: 4E70 = reset. Interesting. I'm guessing it resets the console? Will have to look at the assembly trace some more.
I'm very curious to know if the B.L.O.T.R. Master Code works.
You're right. I used the master code for B.L.O.T.R. & it works. I didn't expect that.
That master code is:
REBT-A6TN
I never would have guessed that it would work for both games. I've noticed that Chavez 2's graphics have been redrawn. I wonder if perhaps the original graphics for the Create-A-Boxer from B.L.O.T.R. are there.
I like how that the actual boxer can get busted up during the fight & that the amount of energy can is displayed behind the boxer's picture, but I also liked B.L.O.T.R.'s. The boxer's picture in that game would get busted up as you took damage, but the actual boxer wouldn't appear to have any damage.

I managed to find a few codes for Chavez 2. What's interesting is that these codes are very similar to BLOTR. For example: The official code that causes Chin to be at the maximum for BLOTR causes Poder (or Punch Power) for Chavez 2 to be beyond maxed out. The meter stretches across the screen twice. What's even better is that its accurate. Just a few punches will knock an opponent down.
I also found a code that temporarily places Julio Cesar Chavez's head on your created boxer's body. That is until you select your attribute style, then it goes back to the normal head. I'll post a direct link to those codes I found. If someone can figure out how to keep Chavez's head when creating a new boxer, that would be awesome.
Something I noticed is that the same master code that works for Chavez 2 & Boxing Legends of the Ring also works for WWF Super Wrestlemania. That is very weird. I wonder if there are other games that code works for.
