  • Request: Wonder Boy in Monster World (SMS)

Not sure how many people are familiar with this game, but I'm using Mezmorize's invulnerability code and I made it up to the part where you get the trident and then must go into the water near Alsedo town (after Purapril), but even though I have the trident it will not let me dive down and swim in the water.

I am guessing it's an undesirable side effect of the invulnerability code, as the code lets you "walk through" water anyway.

I've turned off the code, died, then restarted the area and I still can't dive down.

If anyone knows this game pretty good and recognizes what the problem is, please let me know, as I've put in a couple hours with this game already and would hate to be at a damned dead end.

    Uh oh!

Did you use the GG or AR version?

I would assume Game Genie if it's staying on.
You could change the code to make it re-insert the original byte to make the game factory again.

    Edit:

In this picture you can see that the code decrypts to:
    Address:1869
    Compare:2B
    New Value:00

Just reverse the compare and new value to make a reversal code.

Well damn, now that I look in the database again it seems Monster World is on there more than once.
I'm not sure if that code in the image is the one (if you even are using the Game Genie version).

Hey Mez, I am using your PAR code for Wonder Boy in Monster World for the SMS:

      00C3-123E

Even if I turn it off or set it to 00 (00C3-1200) it doesn't effect the fact that I still can't swim. It does remove the invulnerability when I shut it off, but the little bastard won't duck down into the water.

I must still be doing something wrong in the game or not have the correct item or something, but I do have the trident, which the FAQ says is required to swim.

I wouldn't think the PAR code would do somethin' like that, but maybe so.
When you turn the code off, it would only take a couple seconds for the timer to go back to 0 and the effects would be gone.

I really don't know what to tell you.
Is this the first encounter with water?
Maybe a code could be made to fix it, like 'Have Swim Ability'.

So I used a password at Gamefaqs to start right after the part I was stuck on. In the next section you are required to go into the water again and this time he jumped right in and was able to swim. It's possible the water area I was trying to get into before was not the correct area...I really don't know.

Regardless, I'm pretty certain it wasn't the code effecting my not being able to swim, but just my stupidity at following the vague walkthrough and thinking I was in the right area when I wasn't. There isn't a ton of water to dive into in this game, so I have no idea where the area mentioned in the FAQ was.

Thanks for your help as usual, Mez.

            Well, that's good to hear.
I would have hated for you to have to start over or something 'cause of a code I made.

You've made so many damned good invulnerability codes that have helped me beat games that I wouldn't care if 1 or 2 codes caused me to have to start over cuz of side effects. The price to pay for cheating.
