I'd rather not port that "Lava no longer kills Mario" code. The lava doesn't kill him, but he falls into the pit and dies anyway.

Use nolberto82's code for Invincibility against Pits in Lava. It works in both Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World:
