  • Inputting in PSX through the parallel port

    Hello, people.

Can somebody please tell me, is it possible to send input commands to PSX using those Action Replay tools? By “inputting” I literally mean to act like a PSX game pad.

I found that CatFlap console tool which has a keyboard redirection option in console mode. Is it what I'm looking for?

The problem is, my PSX game pad chip burnt out and I cannot use a real game pad, they all obviously don't work anymore. But the console itself works, boots into Action Replay cartridge menu and also boots games. So I need a work-around.

I need it all to dump my BIOS using ar3read.exe.

Please tell me everything you know.

I've dumped my BIOS using the same method before.
If that's the only thing you need, you seem to be going about it the hard way...
Why not just download it from the web?

But if I were you, I would try to buy another working PSX with the same model number from ebay for cheap; that way you'll have plenty of spare parts.

The thing is that I want to get BIOS actually from my old PSX. You see, buying another console even with the same model number isn't thrill at all :-)

By the way, do you know if it's possible to use ar3read.exe without starting a game? I have a type of cartridge (Action Replay, I believe) which boots after console is booted (after all that SONY SCE logos). I mean console BIOS is already there in memory when I'm in cartridge menu. Any chance here?

If it's not, I'll just get BIOS of my model (SCPH-5502) from the web. Seems to be the last thing I can do.

If your talkin' about the same tools as me, you need to have the boot cd running to use those command line apps.

Yes, it's them. Caetla, Action Replay tools, etc. I got them from here and from your post.

But what's that boot CD you are mentioning? Is it AR3FLASH.BIN image that I need to burn on CD-R? I tried your link and there's some information about 4CDRWIN.ZIP from “Action Replay 3(GameShark PRO) Reflash Tool Ver0.20” archive which also has some burnable image but there's no link for download.

I also noticed files from your attachment go under newer version so I need only yours?

Yep, that's the boot CD I mentioned.
You could almost dump your BIOS, but you need to press Circle one time after inserting the disc to use the tools.
In the JPN link above, you would need to download both versions, and combine the two to have the fully updated program pack.

            Edit:
Here's another Japanese site I had trouble finding again.
            http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA018.../par3bios.html (English)
It's has an amazingly simple program to extract the BIOS while using the PAR3/GSPro.

You may need mfc42.dll to go with the program.

I also forgot all about this:

I even helped contribute to it, just a tad o.O

              All right, I see it.

Hopefully at least something will work in my case.

              Thanks!
