  • Mega Games 2 Revenge of Shinobi GG Codes

Hello I was wondering if you could help me. I own the Mega Games 2 compilation for my PAL Sega Mega Drive 1. The compilation consists of Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Revenge of Shinobi but as it's a compilation the Game Genie codes on this site on their own do not work for these games. I was hoping for an invincibility code for Revenge of Shinobi but for the version located on the Mega Games 2 cartridge.

EDIT: Sorry the thread title should say Mega Games 2 not 3. Thank you.

That type of code is very easy to make yourself. Just get a copy of both ROMs (Revenge of Shinobi and Mega Games 2), a hex editor, and a Game Genie to hex conversion program: http://www.thegshi.org/downloads/ggconv.zip

Enter the Revenge of Shinobi invincibility Game Genie code into the GG to hex conversion program and it will give you a ROM address. Using a hex editor, go to that ROM address in the Revenge of Shinobi ROM and write down the value at that address, as well as the value for the next 14 addresses in a row. Close that ROM and open the other one (Mega Games 2). Click on "Find" and type in all the values you wrote down. With any luck, there will only be one match. Put the new ROM address into the GG to hex conversion program, along with the same value from the invincibility code for Revenge of Shinobi and the program will give you your new Game Genie code.

Thank you for responding. So just to clarify all of what you've suggested needs to be done with a Game Genie Converter program and the game roms? I have a feeling this is going to be quite tricky not just because I lack hex editor experience but in trying to find an actual PAL GG Revenge of Shinobi code as the codes for the original release are not only US codes but contain three different versions. Really to start me off what I need is a PAL GG invincibility code for the original release, then I can use that to find the Mega Games 2 code.

You probably don't need a PAL invincibility GG code. The programming for all the different versions of Revenge of Shinobi are very similar. Just use the invincibility GG code from the data base here at GSHI: http://www.thegshi.org/?s=v2&sys=8&gid=7590

Then get the same ROM as that code was made for: Revenge of Shinobi, The (W) (REV 01)

I'm pretty sure that you will be able to find an exact match in the Mega Games 2 ROM.

Trust me, once you see how easy it is to port over a code from a different version, you'll want to port over codes for Streets of Rage and Golden Axe too. What's the old saying... If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach him how to fish, he's fed for life.

So even if the version of Revenge of Shinobi included on Mega Games 2 was Version 3 it shouldn't matter? Thanks again for your help. One last question...I've downloaded the GG converter but what hex editor do you recommend I use?

The different versions probably aren't going to matter in this situation. If you have any problems, let me know.

As far as a hex editor, there is one here at GSHI that Lazy Bastard recommends: http://www.thegshi.org/downloads/hexplorer.exe

I use Hex Workshop, but it's not freeware. You can get a free trial version here: bpsoft.com

            Either one should work fine.

Hybrid thanks for the code, it works perfectly but I'm going to try for the other games as well as I need to learn how to do this. Lastly do you guys know of any websites where you can ask for normal non-hacking cheats for games. I don't have a Game Genie or Action Replay for my Saturn but I need to get an invincibility cheat code to input for Bug! as the one listed on websites doesn't work.

Just to add I'm using Hexplorer to get the values but when I use Go To Address the program doesn't search and just skips to the end. I'm inputting the address as 03E61A: 6604 in the Offset column. Is that correct?

03E61A would be the offset. 6604 is the value.

EDIT: If you have problems, just let me know which one you're working on and I'll give you specific instructions so you can use it as an example for the rest.

Hi I'm using Hexplorer to try to get the same invincibility code that Hybrid got I get different results every time I try to get the value on Mega Games 2. I also don't know how with the new value you get the new Game Genie code. Any help would be appreciated.

Put the invincibility Game Genie code for Revenge of Shinobi (REV 01) into the GG to hex conversion program and get the hex code. So AXXA-GN24 = 03E61A:6604. 03E61A is the ROM address we want. Open up your Revenge of Shinobi (REV 01) ROM with your hex editor and go to ROM address 03E61A. In Hex Workshop you can click on "Edit/Go To" and type in the address. Don't know if Hexplorer is the same. At ROM address 03E61A, the value should be 67 (everything in Genesis/MD ROMs uses 2 bytes (4 digits), but we won't worry about that right now). So we want to write down that value (67), as well as the next several numbers in a row. So this is what we would write down: 67045328003F4A78

Close that ROM and open up your Mega Games 2 ROM with the hex editor. Click on "Edit/Find" and type in the 16 numbers/letters you wrote down from before (67045328003F4A78). Click on "Find Next" and you should only have one match. The ROM address of the first value of our "string" of numbers (67) is at 1BE5F6. This is our new ROM address we'll use to make our new Game Genie code. So enter 1BE5F6 into the GG to hex conversion program, as well as the "value" from the original code which was 6604. So our new GG code is 1BE5F6:6604 = AXWV-0N90

Okay I think I understand why I'm getting stuck. Nearly everything you've told me is straightforward. The problem I keep finding is that when I try to get a new address match on Mega Games 2 it doesn't give me a new address it simply matches the string of numbers I wrote down before. I'm using the exact same string of numbers you've used but Hexplorer just matches those numbers rather than providing a new address I can use. I've copied/pasted as well as manually typed in the numbers into the hex column on 'Find' so I think I'm doing it correctly. So what I'm I not doing?

UPDATE: I've put the new address you provided (1BE5F6) into 'Find' to try and get a match and it can't find a match!

I'm following Tony Hedstrom's instructions exactly but my last post indicates that getting a new address isn't possible as Hexplorer just tries to match the string of values taken down from Revenge of Shinobi. I know I'm missing something but am not sure what. It's very frustrating.
